I can't wait to pick off another one! I've got plenty of groundhogs around my property. It will be easy to get a headshot with this rifle as it's lighter and shoulders well. And the ghogs get smarter all the time, timing is everything trying to catch one out and not hiding or underground. I'm overdue for another one and I'll post it when i get one. Lol

After a six week wait i received today a replacement new upgraded Macavity MA2 Sniper 22 rifle! After cleaning the barrel and mounting the scope i took it out back to sight it in. Only took 4 shots to get to hitting the bullseye's so that was nice. Shot it over the chrony and it was shooting hot at 974 fps so had to take off the stock and back out the hammer spring and got it down to 890 fps and reassembled and shot some more groups. Smooth as silk cocking on this thing to and i really like that about the rifle. I now get about 50 shots before i have to refill as the shots start dropping and im fine with that! I also got a barrel band with pic rail installed as the one on the stock is flexible and useless. Can't wait to do some hunting with it as it's a lot lighter than some of my other rifles. Thanks Macavity for making it right!

Just a reminder to all of you guys following this thread, that this gun, for all of its growing pains, is awesome!

Sure, I'm rather pissed off at not being able to put on a folding stock adapter, because I have the Genesis version, but my version didn't need the recall either. And I prefer Maple mags to even the factory all-metal magazines, and my suppressor came empty, and the front picatinny rail is a joke.

After all is said and done, I don't really care about any of that anymore. I'm over it. Why? Like I said above, this gun is awesome. I don't use a bipod and the folding stock was just for transporting, not using, and I got the Maple mags. It is awesome because of how quality it feels to shoot and cycle rounds. It feels good. The internal machining is nice and the regulator is easy to adjust. Since I have had mine set up it has been nothing but pleasing to shoot and accurate. It's easy to get caught up in the problems and to pile on with the complaints but I don't regret getting mine at all and I still think that it is an excellent value. I think that once you get the recall done and you start shooting, this whole episode won't mean much. I was just shooting mine today and it is a smile machine for sure.

What's up with the super easy and smooth cocking? Just that by itself is a smile maker right? I adjusted the hammer spring down from 964 to 890 fps and the cocking force feels exactly the same! Some kind of voodoo or something in Macavitys design that makes it an absolute pleasure to shoot. Ran about 100 rounds through it today and getting it broke in properly and did the same yesterday. Really enjoying it so far!

I bought the metal mags from Macavity in 22 and although heavy duty they seem to "catch" when cycling a pellet into the chamber everytime. All of them do that on my new rifle. The plastic mags it comes with cycled smooth and just fine. Without buying Maple Mags where can i get more of the plastic mags? I would gladly trade the metal mags if anyone is interested.

I'll tell you straight up, don't waste your money on their magazines, get the Maple, you will not regret it once you start plinking a lot. I love plinking with my MA2 but the one thing that started driving me absolutely bat $h!t crazy was firing on an empty cylinder all the time. The Maple mags solve this problem nicely and are so worth their price compared to paying a penny for Macavity's. Maybe there are some o.c.d. types out there that keep track and would rather have the extra pellet, but I ain't one of them. Shoot through a couple of tins of pellets before you do anything. I didn't want to get the Maple's at first either and I got a Macavity metal one, and it is way better than the plastic ones in my case, but still has the same problem. I was always firing on an empty chamber. What stinks about doing that is that sometimes that can lead to you blowing out your breach oring, which on this gun is in there deep, and I didn't want to have to be replacing it all the time. Who knows, maybe on this gun that won't happen, but I wasn't taking the chance or wasting any more air either.

I have it dialed in nicely shooting dime to nickle size groups at 25 yards and chrony reading after hammer spring adjustment is 875 fps. The groups took a while to get tighter as the regulator must have finally broken in after 500 or so shots. Now i get consistent 66 shots before coming off the reg. Love this rifle!

I have it dialed in nicely shooting dime to nickle size groups at 25 yards and chrony reading after hammer spring adjustment is 875 fps. The groups took a while to get tighter as the regulator must have finally broken in after 500 or so shots. Now i get consistent 66 shots before coming off the reg. Love this rifle!

That's great to get accuracy at that speed. I needed to run the JSB18.13gr pellets at 925fps to get them to tighten up. Actually, the process was a lot more involved than what I am saying here. I am going to look for a link to what I wrote at the time, and put it here:

Secret Sauce Found! ... and it includes JSB 18.13gr pellets too.

The final recipe included ingredients that I don't normally use, like speed, but it tastes sweet in this recipe.

I have at this point changed my reg setting three times from the factory setting of 1600psi (L 2.048"). The first move was to 2.060" and this was around 1700psi, with ok accuracy and the sound was not noticably quieter. I was still shooting at 875fps, just trying to up the pressure to get the vavle to shut quicker, plus I have always thought that regs work better working harder, or at least above their mid power point. Today I changed it again to 2.075" 21-2200psi and I was still trying to keep 875fps but I noticed when I came off the reg the speed shot up to 950fps, so I thought that the porting was too big to be playing around with this setting unless I wanted to shoot faster or heavier, which I really just wanted to shoot quieter and more accurately, so I had to compromise somewhere. I turned the reg down to 2.067" 2000psi and this time set my speed for 920fps, perfect! Now I can shoot from 3600 to 1500psi with only a slight 15-20fps jump off the reg, right down to 1500psi ending at 875fps. It starts getting loud at this point. I really liked these numbers, though I really don't like shooting pellets over 890fps, I know that a lot of people shoot these particular pellets fast with good results. I slapped my scope back on to check if I helped or hurt accuracy and it most definately improved. It is a dime shooter at 53y now. I don't know if this will only work for my gun but I am really happy with it now. I am done tuning it at this point, I have 20K of these so I am set for the summer.

What are you measuring when you say 2.075? I assume its the brass adjuster screw to something, but we all know what happens when you assume something.

I measure the total length of the regulator. I don't do any of the counting turns nonsense. I can repeat my results when I measure the whole thing. So, yes, from the top of the brass adjuster screw to the bottom of the regulator. I have a very good Starrett vernier caliper, worth every penny. No harbor freight digital versions for me anymore.

Really nice you have yours dialed in so well! I'm afraid to take mine apart and move the regulator up a little more as it's working so well. If i shot at longer distances im sure i would have to up mine too, but 30 yards is where i like to keep my shots under. Mine likes the same pellet yours does and also the AEA Center Punch 18 grains as well. I recently saw Terminador Outdoors turn one into a bottle gun on YouTube and that's what I'd like to do to mine next. Great rifles that just need a lot of tweaking to get dialed in to where we're happy with it!
