A good friend of mine, and quite a few others here has been the victim of porch pirates.
He recently send a practically brand new pcp to another member to test before he decided if he wanted to buy it or not. The package was delivered to the member, but my friend was contacted shortly after saying that the package was not there. He is not willing to pay for something he didn’t recieve, so my god friend is out $2k for the cost of the rifle (his sale price anyway) and the shipping.

a member you all know, Kevin (ctairgunner) has set up a gofundme page to try and help recoup the cost of the pcp he has lost. As we all know, these toys are expensive, and that hard earned money isn’t easy to come by.

Please think about helping donate to help the cause, and get this member back in good standings. Or if you can’t donate, please share between other airgun wes that may be able to.

Thanks for your support.

Recoup funds from a good hearted deal gone bad, organized by Kevin Meersman

Is there a picture of the gun to post? A serial number? We can all be on the lookout for the gun. What state was it stolen in?
Bolo’s rarely ever come up fruitful, but it’s a limited edition huben k1 in wood stock 22cal taken from a porch in Columbus Ohio.

for some reason, I can’t paste links here in the post, so you can jump over to the AGN classifieds, and check out his wts ad over there complete with full description and detailed pics.
thanks.

Hey guys, I kno Matt as well and I made the go fund me, he would take the shirt off his back for ANYONE till he had no more.

I feel sick for Matt , as this was in good faith and now has gone awry with w not much recourse for him but sit and wait.

Any help is appreciated guys, thank you!

I was put off by this and was going to send some PMs, but thought it better to say it aloud. I have been looking through my gun cabinet at unused springers and decided to give one to a fellow member. They pay the shipping…. Then I read this post, @CTAirgunner1288 and @Madeintheuk, please understand I hold you gentlemen in high regard, so it was hard for me to write this.

I’ve spoken with Matt a few times in regards to the BRKs… But why a go fund me? Though well intentioned, it was bad judgement to send such a pricey item to a home address. Particularly without receiving payment first. Sending it to a shipping center, where it would have to be picked up, would’ve been more prudent. Matt’s collection of PCPs, scopes, HPA compressors dwarf any PCP goodness I might ever have. So again why the go fund me? The receiving member, how “vetted” is he? We understand these are “first world” toys… So no hardship to Matt, other than a hard lesson learned. Not looking to offend just don’t understand the gravitas over “poor judgement“ on shipping a pricey toy to an unknown person, who claims it was stolen… A “he said, she said” situation.

The member he sent it to has done busienss with him in the past. They are well vetted on the forum, and in the classifieds on AGN. why the gofundme? Because Matt works hard for his money just like the rest of us, and what you call bad judgement, I call an act of kindness. He would give the shirt off his back for anyone, and has ALWAYS been willing to help out anyone he could.
I’m not going to speculate on whether or not this was actually stolen, all I want is for Matt to recoup at least some of the money he has lost.
Also, the give some perspective. Matt may come off as having a nice collection, but please understand, he sold a lot of his stuff to afford what he has, and doesn’t have free money to just “throw away” on expensive toys. He has worked hard to put together the collection he has, and to lose one of those s pensive pcp’s in this way would be devastating to any of us. Even those with expendable income. It’s not fair to treat him as though this is his fault for just trying to help a member out, and possibly make a sale to further his pcp collection. Who could have predicted that it would have been stolen? Plus he have done things different? Absolutely, but that doesn’t mean he’s not worth helping.

@Madeintheuk, “whether it was actually stolen”? Well, wasn’t it? Is that not the premise? I, unlike others here, am not claiming to know anyone who post here “personally”. We “all” work hard… The fact is the product was shipped, what’s in question is on the ”receiving end”. Yup, them “Porch Pirates” ahem, ahem… And I just noticed you make many broad assumptions in your above post. Who has “money to throw away”? “Worth helping“? “Fair”? Keep pouring it on bro… It rubs me the wrong way, to see a fellow member, whose “entire collection is worth less than the victims Ghost, contribute to a “go fund me”… Can you understand that?

You’re entitled to your opinion, and your responses are welcome.
I will not however, argue with you to take away the meaning of this post.

Not arguing, just pointing out all your “assumptions”. I thought we all understood this is but a “hobby”…. Maybe the middleman, if there was one, should make it right? Was the package shipped uninsured? If so, Why? So many questions? Those darn Porch Pirates, they better not come to my “small town”…

OK, I'm going to close this one down. But probably I should say a few words first, as I can see both sides to the discussion.

1. @Madeintheuk did ask for my permission first before posting his initial message.

2. The transaction took place on the AGN Classifieds.

3. I know none of the folk involved in this string personally. (Other than Eric Brewer, obviously). But I believe that we are all good people.

4. I'm very sorry that one person has lost out here.

5. If other HAM Community members wish to help out that person, I commend their generosity.

6. My guess is that the package had not been sent with Signature Confirmation required for delivery. If it had been, and had been appropriately insured, the carrier would be responsible for the loss and the issue would not have arisen. Maybe there's something for us all to learn here.

7. This is an example of why I'm reluctant to get involved with having a Classifieds section in the HAM Community.

Now let's move on...
