That "new" (updated) laminate HW pcp that Ham posted about is looking absolutely gorgeous, and I am interested in the specs/details when they eventually cut it loose.
Sad to hear about the Ghost....but i get it, its my only non-wood stocked gun too.
To me between the 30 and the 50 I'd scope the 30 if anything as it will be gentler on said scope and you can really hone in the accuracy with it.

I've been giving it some thought. Being as I have found an HW30S in laminate since this was written, I've decided to mount a Hawke 2-7 Air Max AO on it. We'll leave the open sights for the laminate rifle. I'll have the best of both worlds.

Annnddd, some more thought. MTC copperhead, and rings added to the order. Everything is set, just need the rifles to get tuned, and into the little brown truck.

No, the airmax will go on the HW30S as it has the traditional profile stock with a set of medium rings, and the MTC will go on the HW30N with a set of medium rings. I'll leave the HW50S with irons. My wife will likely gravitate to shooting the 30's so I want them to be user friendly.

Testing a bit today,and had a bit of a surprise. I would have thought that the heavier pellets would impact low. Turned out the other way around. I assume that it's because the heavier pellet recoils a bit more, and stays in the bore longer thereby impacting higher at this short range. I spoiled the h&n group with the last shot dropping low. I think that is the pellet I will use in the little rifle. I'm curious about what distance most of you sight in your spring piston rifles? I'm finding it great fun to hold dead on at 15, and use the reticle marks at longer ranges.

As for you impacts being lower on the H&Ns....that could be the harder lead maybe? Are they harder to seat then the Jsbs?

Yeah, I plugged the data into a ballistic calculator, and determined that 25 should be good for that setup. These are SFP scopes. On the springers I like them, but my eyes are older than yours. Both pellets are tight in the bore. I haven't a speed on the JSB yet. Too lazy to get the radar out.

I think that you may be on to something. I'll have to get off my butt, and get the radar out. I shot a couple of groups today, and really couldn't come up with much difference. So, stretched it out to 25 yards, and the heavier pellet still impacted higher. As you would expect, the difference was even greater. What really surprised me was how the H&N groups opened up as compared to the JSB. I was thinking that I'd shoot the lighter pellet to try to get as flat trajectory as possible, but the proof is in the puddin'. I went back to your thought that the softer pellet/skirt must be sealing better. We'll have to get out there with the tech, and do some investigating. Funny, it seems that both of my HW30's while not picky, prefer the JSB. Could be the low power is helped by the softer pellet.

I have found much the same. When h&n was preferred by my HW97KT, and the HW50S I pretty much assumed that would be the case with the 30's. That's the interesting thing about airguns, always something to learn. One thing holds true, distance is your friend, it won't lie to you.
