Hey everyone,

I recently became interested in target shooting and would love some guidance from experienced shooters. I have zero background in this sport and want to start on the right foot. What type of equipment is best for a complete beginner?

Are there specific calibers or firearm types that are more forgiving for new shooters? I am also curious about proper stance, breath control, and aiming techniques.

Should I take a formal course first, or is self-learning through practice acceptable?

Any advice on choosing a good shooting range would also be appreciated.

Practice Practice and a little more always helps.
If construction of a backstop is needed watch a couple videos first.
Safety Glasses/prescription if needed.
Comfort, Chair, table, guest chair. A cheap rangefinder for plinking is always good to have around. Pen and paper/sharpie
Airgun oil of your liking. Basic tools.
Oh and CAN HATS got to have those. At 21 feet it's a blast and 30 feet is challenging but 53 feet, get your scope out and it's a fun new ball game 🎯
Have a Blast

Question 1, what is your budget? 🤔 😏
Question 2 , will you be competing against others or just back-yarding it on your own?
Question 3, what kind of distances would you want to shoot at? 10M? 50Yards? 100? etc...

There are numerous types of target shooting. Benchrest at 25 and 50 yards, 10M olympic style, prone 100 yard, and many others. Each one has it's preferences for caliber and rifle style. Match rules dictate power limits. I suggest looking at the various match reports on this and other forums to see what the top shooters are using for equipment.
