Marauder G3, The Things I Do For Fun

I put a mini on my pathfinder and it works well but on the drs too loud. Have a 110c on both the drs’s slightly on the loud side but better than anything else i have and that includes the next size up from the mini
That's interesting. I'm sure there is some engineering statement that can explain why a given suppressor works well on one rifle..., but not as well on another rifle???

Personally, as much as I don’t like anodized “race guns”. Visualizing that Frog tape as actual paint, looks pretty appealing to me. Or some red like that FX DRS. I’m sure it will look great however you do it.
I painted it with rust-oleum flat army green and it really looks good! I am kind of wishing now that I wouldn't have taped it at all, but I can always shoot it again too. I think that I am going to give it the full five day cure time and then give it a matte clear coat on the whole thing, otherwise the transitions from paint to plastic stock won't hold up for a minute. I've got a moderator to buy in the interim anyway.

Whats really weird about the mini on the pathfinder is the pathfinder is close to as loud without as the drs is without
There is no figuring for it really. Even the same gun with a different tune can sound completely different. You have to test with your gun, at your own power level. It wouldn't be so bad if the price hadn't sky rocketed on the nice ones. After my STO crapped out, I took stock of the fact that none of my DonnyFL's have. His new ones are even better. It's a tough call, when you throw in price. Maybe I will find something in the classifieds too. The IA1350 has surprised me. I didn't think that it would work as well as it does, without any kind of sound deadening material inside, but since it does work well I am a lot more confident about trying a Ryu/Yoko too. I just know which size I would need, I'd obviously like to stay Ryu size, but a Yoko would make more sense w/o anyone telling me directly a Ryo could do it with an extra baffle or something.

Did you have a look at the newest Heartland model? It's a modular design with baffles and all aluminum.

Thanks! Very interested in that. I'm going to look for some user reviews this weekend. The Prototype is a strong contender already, that has impressed a bunch of people.

I bought the "Prototype" Whisper GL. I wanted to save the cash and not have more parts laying around that I most likely would never use. I would imagine that ACS moderator would be great for someone starting out though. We'll see how the Heartland .25 does on the G3 at 63fpe. It's basically the same size as my Sumo, so I have something that works well to compare it against.

Took most of thetape off. I left the grip cap and the recoil pad covered. I will be doing a matte clear coat on it, so there's no sense in removing that tape. I think it looks pretty sharp, I'm happy with it.

I'm kind of kicking myself today for impulse buying the Prototype moderator. Only because I never checked the weight, 8 ounces, yikes! I thought that since it was carbon fiber and printed, it would be light like my STO was, -wrong! If it's levels quieter to my ear, than my Sumo, I won't really care I guess.

Looks good. It’s turning out to be quite the project.

I took the rest of the tape off now that I did matte clear coat it. I would say that I'm done, pretty much, with the gun. I am most likely going to paint the moderator that I have coming because it's pretty big. I am going to see if I would be content using camo ace wraps first, but I doubt it. I am very pleased with how my chunk of JBWeld looks. I did put tiny rare earth magnets in it and the end of the stock. They are just strong enough to hold it in place with no sudden moves, but that's about it. The piton being pinched between the bottle and the gun is what holds it on the gun. Painting that black along with the lower stock matches well, a nice finished look I think. Here's some inside/outside pics:

VERY nice!
BIG improvement on the overall looks IMHO
I hate to put the big can on it, but it needs it with the power level I'm shooting at. I'd really like a reflexed low profile mod with an air stripper and baffles that would go back to the bottle. I think those look so much better than cans. They are really popular across the pond, but not here for some reason.

Wrap the front end in rosewood and you’ll be sporting a Weatherby. Just joking. It does look good. I’m sure you’re glad you picked one up. Have you fired it without the shroud? I’m assuming the shroud provides suppression? @BenjeneerJohn
The shroud, the way I'm using it now, is tensioned between the collet and the suppressor, so it might be helping with harmonics but it is doing nothing for sound mitigation.

I have shot w/o the shroud on, and the gun is slightly, or rather, was, slightly, more accurate that way. I will try that again after I get the Prototype on there. I have not fired it w/o any suppressor on it, and probably never will.

The shroud in the original configuration does have some blow back and I imagine that it does help with the sound. I don't know how much. With these pressures it could be more than I think. My P15 has a LW 23.5" barrel but it only does 50fpe and I run a DFL Sumo on that and it works well. I am going to try that, against the Heartland Whisper GL (Prototype) that I am getting. I am real curious about that. I am going to use the only meter that matters to me, my ears.

@Pumacarl You did an outstanding job on that stock! I think it looks great!

@Billm the factory shroud and baffle stack help knock the noise down. Without the baffle stack, it will be loud. Pumacarl is running his setup exactly like I had planned it. Leave the shroud, add a spacer and screw on a moderator to help quiet things down even more.

John
Thanks John! It's cool to have a one off too.
