Others FX love/hate relationship??

I think if you bought a .22, it would be set up to shoot 18.1 gr JSBs right from the factory. Many problems arise when folks get the tools out and start messing with them. If you don’t want to mess with them, then get a RAW, Daystate or Brocock. Regardless, buy it from a dealer that will set it up the way you want and test it like SPAW, Utah, or others. Some dealers just pull a box off the shelf and send it to you.
I 100% agree I've got a M3 and a M4 FX when I got them from Utah Airguns both were tuned perfectly and were tack drivers then I started tinkering there came the downfall I did learn a lot about tuning and repairing them because was trying to get them back to where they were in the first place my advice is if it's shooting great leave it alone and enjoy it. One more important note not all ammo shoots well in every gun they told me what they set mine up to shoot but if you get a gun that's not been set up for a certain pellet or slug your going to have to try a few and see what works best in your's

The love will probably kick in again when the leopard drops. Lol. Know I will want one. How far north of 2k do you guys suspect the bottle versions are ?
Love replying to myself. Lol. Actually no interest in the leopard. Already have two bullpup guns and the way fx made getting to the reg to even adjust it on the leopard a PIA is a major turn off. Much less convenient to switch calibers and there was something else I don’t remember I didn’t like. Besides now that I have been shooting the wk3 bt I am flat out loving that gun. Shoots so good. 115 bar reg, 2 turns out from bottom on adjuster screw , PW 7, 33.95 pellets just over 900 fps. Same reg, slap the 30 cal barrel, probe, and hammer weight in. Then turn adj screw all the way in CW and back out 1/2 turn. 44.75 gr at 895. Leopard can’t do that in under 10 minutes. Not sold on the air stored in a different place “upgrade” anyway.

I've owned a few of them, my favorite was the wildcat bt compact in .22...which I sold, it moved hands again, and I am now currently working on it for the umpteenth time. I like the performance of fx, but they're reliability and build quality lack imo
Have you had reg problems with it ? To me the amp reg is a weak part of FX.

nothing but problems with them. I've probably had the regs out of this gun legitimately 20+ times. Stripped out 2 bottle adapters, since they're made of aluminum instead of steel like they should be. Had to replace the entire valve assembly, along with multiple guages and every o ring on the gun has been replaced atleast once. Cocking linkage pin likes to work its way out and I have lost them before in the field ending my day. The performance of them is great, but they are built like tinker toys not something that holds up to years of service.

I dont like bashing brands, as performers fx is has some of the highest performing guns out there and many people own them with no problems. For instance, I owned the maverick, which the wildcat bt is the exact same gun. I had very minor issues with that one like a couple bad gauges and the same cocking pin walking itself out. But overall it was a great gun. I just seemed to have gotten a lemon in the wildcat which can happen with any brand. Probably hear more problems with them because they produce and sell more guns than other brands.

It’s super odd and makes no sense but I’ve read about many more issues with the wildcat bt than with the Maverick. Both from individual accounts and a thread at some point that pointed out the wildcat BT had many more reliability issues than the maverick. My own personal experience has been the same as well. Had a Maverick for well kver a year with zero issues other than the probe alignment which they all have at some point inevitably. That gun was used and original owner had no issues. I buy a BT brand new and the second reg starts leaking. I send it to Newman buck and the first reg ended up failing too and a leak from another spot happened. Lol. Then the second reg wouldn’t seal and a whole new body tube had to be ordered. Now the whole gun has been resealed other than the valve and it is shooting awesome. I love it until inevitably it fails again and it will. Then I will hate fx. lol.

You seem pragmatic on the matter, because the qualities you like or love in your FX experience outweigh the negatives… So in my opinion this a post that actually praises the FXs you have owned. All products have their issues. Good post…🙏
A caddy or chevy both made by GM. If you have a fx and an umarex which I do, the $$ I have into the zelos with the bottle adapter and huma reg is what I paid for the impact m3 on ebay. I like both and have no problem with either. At the end of the day the impact is in my hands, night and day.

Regulators seem to be the weak link, but easy to rebuild with new o rings. Of the seven I’ve owned, one leaked early on and it went back for warranty repair. One other had a leaky regulator after 5 years and I rebuilt it myself with two bucks worth of o rings.for PCPs, I think that’s kinda typical.
Keep the air clean and use a couple drops of silicone oil every 5 fills helps! Amazing what happens when you keep the internal o rings lubed.

I have a super slow leak in reg one on my WC again. This is the third failure on the same gun in less than a year. Sorry it’s just my experience that leads me to say the amp design is the worst reg in an airgun and by far the least reliable in my experience. Yes it’s just orings but I don’t find the amp particularly easy to work on which doubles down on it being the worse reg in the industry for me. I don’t know, this is my last FX I will ever own. I don’t even feel right selling this one so is what it is. The leak is really slow right now so I don’t even want to mess with that. I just say they need a completely redesigned regulator. TIL then I’m out.

I have the 3 Smooth Twist brethren Bobcat, Boss and Royale. First thing I did on the Bobcat and Boss is replace the AMP regulator with a Huma-Air regulator. My experience has been that OEM internal regs are always the weak point. So I just spend the money for the Huma-Air regulators.

When I can, I go with an external regulator from Huben Power. Does make for some *interesting* looking rifles.

@SpindleB
Which Huma external reg are you using?

Have you any pictures of it on a gun?
Thanks
Edward

I owned a couple internal regged FX guns and never had an issue. Different story with the new tiny amps. 3 leaky ones in this WC and a twice leaker in a crown. Also had an m3 that was a bit funky. You could turn the adjust screw out on the second reg and the pressure wouldn’t move. Degas the gun completely and it would adjust up fine. Really slow recovery in the cold too. Nothing but problems. Shame as the guns shoot so darn well.

Yeah, I remember the sound of air rushing in after a shot. Very strange sound.

Just curious if anyone has this same feeling. I have owned numerous fx guns and this summer I had a couple fx amp reg failures. Sent one in (crown) and by the time it was done and shipping it was like 100 bucks. Then my wildcat bt one took a dump. Tried to fix it myself and after nearly an hour to get that stupid little oring back in its spot in the bottom of the amp reg I just sent it off. Was still under warranty and I was utterly frustrated. That gun took forever to get back as the plenum tube the reg screws into was defective and had to wait for one to get to the USA. In that time I vowed I was done with fx. I absolutely despise that little PIA regulator with a passion. The gun finally came back and here is the love problem. I have owned many different brand guns and without a doubt fx makes, in my opinion, the smoothest shooting guns bar none. There is some magic mojo or something going on in there. My wildcat bt .25 at 63 ft/lbs has an equivalent shot cycle feel as my .25 delta wolf at 43 ft/lbs. It’s mind boggling. If they could just get a reg that isn’t a nightmare to work on and a bit more reliability they would have everyone blown out of the water. I also had a Skout epoch in the last year. FX shot cycle at a same given power as the Skout is so much softer and smoother. Just like when compared to the delta wolf. Anyway that is my love hate rant. lol. Was going to sell the cat but I just can’t now.
I know what you mean! I have several FX M3’s from .25 to .35 and two Dynamics and I replaced all the regulators with Huma high pressure versions and have never looked back. I deleted the first regulator on my M3’s and got a lot of gruff from some and then what does FX do with the M4 ….? Just one reg.

These regs are very easy to work on…but there is a couple of procedures tonget those orings back in place that is easy as pie…I have done it to several of them…

My issue was more getting it out. Probably when you successfully do a few it becomes smooth. However there still are so many regulators that are just so much simpler to deal with. Both my vulcan3 and daystate delta wolfs have regs that are bigger and easier to swap everything on. I’ve just had too many amp leaks. There is something bad about the design as that oring down in the gun body just hasn’t held up in my experience. All good as I am FX free completely and will remain until they completely redesign the regulator.

I have 5 Dreamlines and 2 Impact M3’s. Tack drivers the lot of them. Just pulled one apart last night and polished the hammer, hammer spring and shuttle housing and sear. Added a larger Maverick plenum to it and it shoots better, Smoother and quieter than ever. A 22 Cal, 600mm barrel Huma high flow transfer port and probe…runnin AEA 18.4 gr pellets at 930fps and just hole in hole smooth.

Yes, I tweak and tinker on them and I have every oring needed for the dreamline, impact and mavericks along with spare amp regulator kits and other parts and accessories…these guns are not hard to work on…stop looking for the easy button gimme gimme out of the box. Nothing is perfect out of the box…
