Others First day with NV500

That's at 40 yards? That zoom is clean!
Yeah it’s pretty good. I’ll defo get better footage because it looks like way better when it’s actually in focus. I took a few shots at some squirrels yesterday. This one was at 137yards on my range finder…. Which kinda brings me to another question? Do you guys ever notice fluctuations in your regulators when the barometric pressure drops? We have a storm moving in so the pressure started dropping yesterday when I was going after the squirrels. I was hitting lower at longer ranges than expected. I didn’t think a whole lot about it but before going out last night my buddy and I were both shooting slower than expect. My 30gr were only doing like 915-920fps instead of the expected 960. I did give a little bump to get me back where I wanted to be… lol when the storm moves off and the temp comes back up I bet they are gonna be cooking haha.

I know the regulators on the Barra are not top class. It’s a budget gun so I plan on changing them as soon as an aftermarket one becomes available. But the reason I ask is my friend has a Gauntlet 2 .30 that he ordered from Hajimoto so it has the ninja regulator ect…he was noticing the same thing. Plenum regulator was fluctuating and his chrono numbers were weird. It could also be chrono issues as it’s a cheap Chinese chrono…I just wanted to see if y’all had any input since my friend and I are very much still noobs at all of this.

So I’ve been playing with the Zulus and I gotta say I really like it. Ran around all night last night calling coyotes and shooting jack rabbits. The standby mode is f***ing clutch! It’s super quick too so the scope is just sipping power until you bring it back up. No lag either… I posted so bad video of my rabbit kill but it’s blurry. That is not the scope! It’s me. I got a little excited and forgot to focus it. Haha I was on a little bit of a cold streak so eager to get some blood on the Desert Wraith’s new eyes.

Looks great man, nice shot! Love that scope.

I got my first 2 100y+ kills with the Zulus today. One was a headshot at 110y. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good y’all. I think I need a sunshade for the day time video. But truly only for the recording. After a couple weeks I really enjoy shooting with it. The recording is distracting haha I find my heart rate goes up when the red light goes on…. I want that “perfect shot” and mostly end up shaking like a crackhead on the ride his life haha. Oh well, just another reason to go visit the squirrels again tomorrow.

Sorry for the music choice… I may or may not have one of those really fun medical cards 🤷‍♂️😂😂

😂😂😂😂😂 what happened? Was the big girl too heavy?
Ha! Since I'm just interested in short range work, I took that huge illuminator off and put on a smaller and close-mounted one. Much better. But no, I just watched too many ratting videos with thermal spotters and scopes. I've used low res thermal cameras before, and they can be a little frustrating especially at distances past a couple feet. When I looked at the prices of higher resolution ones, I realize there wasn't really much cost difference between a monocular and a scope. I figured I can use the scope as a spotter if it's unmounted, and have the option to mount it up. Played with it a bit last night... Did you know a cat's eyes, ears, and butthole are its most prominent features in thermal?

That sounds like a good idea. That’s why DNT makes the thermnight. I’ve seen videos of people doing Picture in Picture on the scope with thermal to spot and NV to positively identify. Pretty neat…. Having a handheld option would be really good too. I tend to scan with a red light and go into the scope once I see eye shine. Night time optics are amazing but I think it becomes really easy to ignore your other senses. I heard the fox I shot well before I ever saw him and I shot him at 20 yards.

lol I did not know that about cats 😂😂😂😂.

Can’t wait to hear how the hunts go.

I have the nv400. Ehhh is what I say. I love the range finder and properly set up auto ballistic calculator. 100% 50 thumbs up. The scope itself….ehh. It’s heavy and just always looks like a digital camera (it is) that is just a little off with lighting etc. Even with parameters set at 50% which is supposed to be like auto settings. Walk from a lit area into a darker wooded area doesn’t transition. Personally not a huge digital optics fan myself. You can get some bad arse regular glass for the price of these things.

I finally got to use my new Oneleaf NV500 Eagle today. I still haven't figured out how to protect the darn thing, but I just had to mount it up on my Avenge-X Bullpup .22, and give it a whirl.

Weight and dimensions

If you're interested in this digital scope, I'm sure you've watched the YouTube reviews. I have to say I agree with all the ones I've seen. Mind you I only have 4hrs on it, all daylight, but so far they check out. Mounting was easy, zeroing was easy, image quality was good.

I used it solely in daylight mode today, with the shade attached as instructed. My default POI was very low, which I suspect is the fault of my rifle -- I had the same issue with my Hawke scope. I was hitting about 13in low at 28yds, and had to move in to get it on paper. Once I did, zeroing took about 30 seconds. Today also marked my first use of a Lead Sled, and that is what made zeroing so easy. Hand-held at 10yds, it took me more like 90 seconds, trying to hold one reticle on the point of aim while adjusting the other to point of impact.

So far, I only have theee negatives. One, it doesn't handle low contrast well in daylight. I made up some NRA AR-7 targets (25yd smallbore). The inner rings are supposed to be black, but I printed them at about 80% gray with black circles. Looks fine to my eye, but it was all dark gray through the NV500. These targets were unusable. So I swapped them out for some generic Shoot N C splatter squares. Neon green background when you get a hit.
Issue number 2: the neon green looked mostly white through the NV500. Neither of these issues affected function at all. I spent more than 4 hours happily testing pellets.

Issue number 3: oh lawd he comin. This setup is a behemoth. The main body isn't all that huge, though it is a bit hefty. But the laser rangefinder mounts to the side, sticking out maybe 1.5 or 2in from the main body. Then the included illuminator attaches to the top of that. It's about 6in long, and has a deep reflector for long throw. It mounts to the top of the LRF. The whole assembly is something like 4.5in wide and 4.5in tall. I can't lay my rifle down on its left side anymore without the LRF becoming a structural element. And there's absolutely no way I can get my case closed around this setup. I'm looking for a solution now. It costs too much for me to be comfortable with a soft case, and hard cases are mostly about 4-5in wide... This needs at least 6.5.

I also noticed that finding a good cheek weld is a little weird. It's not quite like any scope I've used before (which is only 6 or 8). It got better as the day went on, so I suppose I'll get used to it. I did have to lower my cheek rest one notch from the Hawke's position.

I tried photographing the screen with my phone, but they didn't really get along. That rainbow effect is not visible to the eye of course. But those whitish rings and crosses do look that way on screen (neon green IRL). I took a couple snapshots and videos on the NV500 itself, so I'll see if I can share them after I hook it up to a computer.

I will update again when I get some night action.

Maybe move the IR Lamp and mount elsewhere, Then If you still have trouble I would remove the padding from the gun case , mark the area which needs widening and then heat it with a heat gun and find a suitable object to use as a press and make a bulge in the case...
Hope this helps.
