First Close Look At New JSB Monster Pellets

1708641764259.webp

Back in December 2023, HAM readers first heard about the new JSB Monster pellets. Now they are shipping and we can take a close look at the new Monsters in real life!

“Monster”, is a designator for JSB pellets which are heavier than “Heavy”. You can see the Hard Air Magazine guide to JSB pellet names here for more details.

In fact, we have received samples of four new JSB Monster pellets. These are as follows:

– 25.39 Grain Jumbo Monster Redesigned Shallow
– 25.39 Grain Jumbo Monster Redesigned Deep
– 28.55 Grain Jumbo Monster Grand
– 25.39 Grain Hades Monster .22

Note that the Hades pellets have a 5.50 mm head diameter, indicated by this label on the bottom of the tin.

The Jumbo Monsters have a head diameter specification of 5.52 mm, as we can see here.

Now let’s look at each of these new JSB Monster pellets in more detail…

25.39 Grain Jumbo Monster Redesigned Shallow

The Redesigned, shallow skirt JSB Jumbo Monsters are the same as current production.

They are available in 200-count and 350-count tins.

The photograph below shows the shallow skirt implementation.

25.39 Grain Jumbo Monster Redesigned Deep

The Redesigned Deep Skirt JSB Jumbo Monsters are a return to the original “Redesigned” pattern, with deep, thin skirts. That’s easily seen from the photograph below.

Again, they will be available in 200- and 350-count tins.

28.55 Grain Jumbo Monster Grand

These “heavier than heavy” Monsters are a new introduction and are clearly designed to keep pace with the ever-increasing power levels of .22 caliber PCP air rifles.

These are available in 150 count tins.

25.39 Grain Hades Monster .22

The 25.39 Grain Hades Monsters are a new model with a longer skirt than the existing 15.89 Grain 5.5 mm Hades pellets.

Again these are packed in 150-count tins.

in my ind i think the deeps would be better but i have no clue i hate just ordering one tine of something my i need to find an exsue to get something so i can get a tin of each.
i want to try those hades and some of the 28gr as well
for most of my pesting i hing the hades would possibly be nice
I plan to test expansion into water jugs verrry soon. 25gr hades vs the new mrds in .22 and accuracy as well of course....Hang tight sir!!

you just fill up gal juggs and and thats enough for expansion?
Yes! I find water jugs are excellent at showing expansion, almost as good as gel blocks but 100% free 😎 2 pics of ammo that went through water jugs. The ones on the left are skirt end up (pellet &slug) Some crazy expansion!

WOW
i would have never thought to try that those hollow point have soe spread looks to be more then the hades?
The Barracuda Hunters and Hornets (Sorry Jsb🤣) are a pellet that I will be using alot for 40Y and in hunting for sure! Smoked 2 gracks yesterday, the pop (read explosion!😳) was insane. Use an old 4L washer fluid jug, fill with water, flip it bottom facing you, and no high expansion pellet will make it through. Heck the plastic bottle can simulate skin/fur/feather vs just a gel block.🤔 The 'old' 15.89gr Hades don't have the same effect, dump speed fast and are too light in the first place. Excited to try the new Hades!

i had some cheap pellets not sure what they where and some crosman pellets and acuracy was not that good and when i switched to the JSBs accuracy was just there ( a flyer form time to time ) so i just landed on them and stayed.
but i think a pellet that would spread and dump fast would be nice. i just dont want to have to sight in for every pellet i shoot. i like to set it up and forget it it.
when i am deeling with pest its one of those oh crap wheres the gun deals a lot of the time LOL

I 100% agree so what I do is I EXCLUSIVELY shoot 16 to 18gr outta the S510. It is my ready all the time, pest smacker. I do dabble with other lighter/heavier stuff on the bench in it but not for hunting/pesting. These 2 H&N pellets are in the 16-18 range and have same trajectory but yeah not quuuiiiiite as tiny groups as a 16 AAor 18.13Jsb, but money under 40Yards for sure.

Did not have time to accuracy test the new Hades, deeps, and shallows that I have but first of all, the new Hades are extremely shiny!! And I take back what I said earlier about a 4L jug stopping any high expansion pellet....14 thru 18gr yes, but the 25gr everything (even slugs!) went right through the bottom on the jug and out the back. It hits so hard (15/20yards away) that it blew off the caps into pieces. Only one I could collect was the 15.89 'older' Hades. So instead I shot the pellets into a tall 6 gallon water pail off a ladder. (looked sketchy so I wore a face shield😅) The Ghost and myself got pretty wet and the pail survived! Now check the expansion on the new 25gr hades!! Huge win almost as good as the 25gr Ko slug. Picture has original Hades 15.89, 18gr Jsb, 25gr new Hades, Jsb KO 25gr slug, and a 25gr Mrd. Serious expansion @ 950fps!

...I don't recall what configuration your .22 Ghost is in...

...is it a carbine...???...I was thinking the HP barrel won't stabilize those slugs...

...my Ghost HP seems to really like the 28.55 grain pellets...

...I don't really know why I didn't try the 33.95's...

It is the HP, but yeah I'm silly i bought a ton of .22 slugs for when (if😓) the slug barrel ever comes out. If Brk drags their a$$ long enough next year I may buy a dedicated slug gun. The HP definitely shoots them fast enough and expansion testing is always fun for a comparison! The 15.89 Hades and 18gr I shot on min so all the speeds going into the water were all within 50fps of each other. The new Hades I expect the most out of as they are only 150 in a tin but costed a few bucks more. For looks and expansion they are winners so far🤭

...how poor is the accuracy of the slugs out of the HP barrel...???...
I have only ever put 2 slugs on paper with it. that was all I really needed to know they sucked out of it...😅😒😢 40 yards (which is nothing for a 👻) I was making my tiny mrd groups and I tossed 2 (I believe 23gr?) slugs in. One went left and a bit high second went dead on but 2 or so inches low so basically 2 fliers out of 2 shots. I stopped, popped in more mrds and watched it tighten right up again.
