Now here’s an interesting, innovative airgun event! The first annual Boerne Schützenfest will take place in Boerne, Texas (near San Antonio) on October 19 and 20, 2024.
The event is being organized by the Boerne Shooting Club and features a wide range of airgun competitions, including:
– Field Target, Rifle
– Field Target, Pistol
– Schützen Silhouette
– 100 Yard Silhouette
For those not familiar with the German language, “Luftgewehr” means air rifle. “Schützenfest” means – literally – shooting festival, or feast.
You see, the Boerne Schützen Verein – Boerne Shooting Club – was founded in 1864 by German immigrants who had settled along the banks of the Rio Cibolo river in Texas. In fact, this is one of the oldest continuously-operating shooting clubs in the entire USA!
“Schützen Vereine” – Shooting Clubs – at their peak were an integral part of their communities. The concept dates back to mate medieval times, when archery and shooting contests honed the skills of citizens ready to defend their towns.
So protecting the community was a core virtue of Shooting Clubs. And it still is! The club will be donating a portion of this event’s proceeds to the Boerne Police Foundation.
You’ll be shooting in the shoes of these tough-looking characters in the club from long ago…
Given the German roots of the Boerne Shooting Club, Diana Airguns is the official and exclusive sponsor of this event. They are donating a Diana 54 Air King Pro that will be awarded to the winner – the “König” or King – of the event. That’s a great prize!
Markus Dombrowski, Diana’s International Sales Manager, explained: “This event will have some shooting competitions for sure, but they also want to decorate everything in a German style and serve German food as well.”
“So this is a great opportunity for us to sponsor as it draws attention to Diana in the USA as the premier, traditional German airgun manufacturer. It’s going to be a super event and we wish them great success”, Markus told HAM.
With a combination of airgun competition, friendly folk, great German food and the chance to win an AirKing Pro, the Boerne Schützenfest can hardly fail to be a great time!
