The amount of light that is transmitted to the eye is determined by the size of the objective lens. So, the bigger the objective lense, the more light that is able to be transmitted. This Trijicon Credo HX 2.5-10x56 SFP comes up as one of the best and most liked hunting scopes for light gathering. I like the Precision Hunter reticle with it's marked hashes and minimalistic wind hold dots. The green reticle is sufficiently on sale at EuroOptic. well the hawke is a 6-24 x 50 airmax and the Athlon midas tac is 4-16 x 44. the Athlon is way clearer brighter and crisper way! i have one for my EVOL .22 as well as the wifes BRK i dont have my EVOL .22 just yet but that Athlon is for it. i will most likely be getting another Athlon for this EVOL .30

the only reasons i have not swapped this Hawke out is i want lens covers and a side wheel and the Athlons dont have those. i have spoke with Athlon and it is something they are working on and they have started adding those in with some of the new scopes but the couple of Athlons i am lookin at dont offer them.

i have looked at the MK machinging capps but i dont like the side wheel they offer.

I think it was @Madeintheuk that picked up an Arken, I have the Element helix 4-16x44 ffp and I absolutely love it. It is bright, clear and tracks flawlessly.

have you been able to compare the Element to any of the Athlon scopes?
i knwo it will all very based on model and price range.
i do wish i had eccess to some of these.

thanks i look at those sevral months back but i was told by Athlon it was something they where working on so i have nee holding out LOL i should just get a couple sets of these and be done i guess

@Bladebum Let us know what you think of the Arken. I’ve read some good things about a few of their scopes. I’ve ran a couple of Bushnell scopes on my Evol. The glass on the Nitro is good enough for me even though it’s a SFP, the IQ is pretty decent to me out to 100 yards. At times I may throw a FFP Bushnell Engage on there.


@Yoda_1794 The reticle disappears under 15 yards on the parallax knob? That sounds strange. Which Veyron do you have?

I have the Veyron 4-16x44 FFP. I even tested it in my garage that has lots of fluorescent lighting, I like a well lit garage cause I spend a lot of time in there. Anyways, under 15 yds with the parallax wheel adjusted the reticle is barely visible. Im wondering if Arkek ELP4 is the way to go

@Yoda_1794 The 4-16x Veyron is the one that's "meh" to me.Your Evol should've kicked that scope off of itself for you. Even still, I hadn't noticed that. Next time I take mine out I'll be on the look out for that issue to see if mine does that as well. My 3-12x44s don't have that issue. Thanks for clarifying that.

if i didnt have the Atnlon i might be okay witht the Hawke? but i really dont think the Hawke glass is any better then my bug buster. and i do like the bug buster but for the money i think the Hawke should be better. plus my Hawke has issue with the eye ocular adujment be soooo sloppy loose it really need to be sent back ( and once i get something else i will be sending it in )

Not entirely accurate. The glass quality plays a huge role in this too. My athlon helos 2-12 had better light transmission than my Ceylon with similar objectives. There’s a reason the veryron is cheap. Its a lot of scope for the money, but its not mid tier or higher glass.

Based on the limited statement I made you are technically correct, it is not entirely accurate. Like the article points out, it is the eyes and the lense coating from the manufacturer that will matter, along with a host of other variables. This article is a good educational read, and not to promote any particular brand.

Evol mini .22. Lower range magnification since Im often oesting mice, birds and ground squirrels between 10-40 yds. FFP preferably.

Ive been told by my eye dr I have 20-15 and dont need glasses. But everyone in my family uses glasses except me, so I might need to get checked again.

The veyron is a very nice scope for the money. It’s super compact, and so glass will suffer from that too. I chose to go with the Arken epl4 strictly bc the lower light was much clearer and brighter. It weighs basically the same, but is much longer and girthier than the veyron. I will keep my veyron around. It’ll fit the notos well. I also have a 5x prismatic I use on my brk ranger that is super bright and has illumination. By far the lightest scope I own, but only good for shots to about 50yds. Anything past that it doesn’t have enough mag for my eyes.
The mini is worthy of the Arken. It’s worthy of something much more expensive. I just never justify $2k for a scope and not another pcp.

Hey my mini isn't getting a 2k dollar scope either , I found having low to top teir scopes that some budget scopes punch well, some don't (in my opinion) , the ep5 didn't shine too well over 20 mag and I needed it for that , the epl4 I have heard does do really well in its mag range. @Yoda_1794 If we’re talking brands here, you may consider an Athlon Scope. I only have one, a 2-12x42 Athlon Helos gen 2, so I’m no expert on Athlon scopes. Decent scope, but feels a little heavy to me. There are budget scopes like some offerings from WestHunter. I don’t have a lot of experience with them. @L.Leon is a good person to ask about those scopes. Discovery is a brand with reasonable options for a budget scope with low magnification FFP reticles. I think the Arken similar to what the OP will use may be worth while based upon what I’ve read on them, never used one. For the range and purpose you’ve communicated, the Veyron 3-12x44mm FFP works for me. Because of that, have several. It would be perfect if they had a 3-12 Veyron with an illuminated reticle that illuminates the entire reticle. I’ve read that US Optic makes a very similar scope that does just that, but after seeing their prices and having zero experience with the brand, I never looked through one. As another member mentioned, Hawke has some low magnification scopes that have decent glass IMO. Maybe consider a Hawke Airmax or a Sidewinder if you can find a good sale or deal.

thats the scope i have been looking at to possable put on one of the EVOLs
When i get my next EVOL ( a MINI i think ) i will be dropping something light just to keep weight as low as possible.

@pan60 I’ll have to look up the name, but it has a red horseshoe shaped circle in the center of the crosshairs.
