Have been watching Cedrics Nobles 224 rifle and that thing is a straight up monster!

That got me to thinking about how far you can really push these rifles. They are just a basic straight forward rifle, but they just plain work. I know quite a few years ago there was another forum that was all about the AirForce rifles, and the owner runs a shop now. But was wondering how far some of you guys have pushed these rifles with modifications and upgrades?

Not that I really NEED one of these guns, but it would be fun to make some larger 22 slugs and push them stupidly fast at some far ranges.

So what do you guys have? OR if you find something online let us see, but make sure you credit the source!

Mine was shooting AVS 85 gr .257 at 975 fps (180 fpe) , tethered, sub half moa at 100 yards.

Yes, they , like any other gun can be highly modified with enough coin. The caliber changes and whatnot are easy on the Airforce rifles though! ..... But they can still only be pushed so far just like every other air rifle.

The carbon bottle versions still only fill to 3600 psi. We only have so much pressure to work with.

The new tex Rex is 4500 psi... pretty sure the bottle is actually the same.

You are right, but in that case still limited to 4500 psi...

Chris Turek launched a round out of an airforce and hit a paper plate at 1250 yards, using the cold shot it looked like mortar lol

I know Chad Simon has shot a .457 around 1000 yards on a jug of water as well.

What I do think is awesome, that these Air Force rifles do exceptionally well is, they have a huge tray/mag well, that makes things like the 224 bullet possible. I think a lot of other air rifles could achieve same results, however they are limited in magazine size.
That is why I am liking the rifle, or the idea of it anyway. One of my buddies here in town is looking at one for the same reason. One of these would be KILLER on a dog town blasting. Keeping the rifle tethered would be a needed, but the ability to really reach out and shoot would be fun as well.

The 4500 psi has been broken; do you dare to push it to 7,000?

It’s the complete integration of design, materials, powertrain, and purpose that elevates it.

AirForce essentially built the Texan like a precision instrument with one goal: launching heavy slugs at high velocity with repeatable accuracy. Every design choice—from the valve geometry to the barrel length to the tank configuration—feeds into that mission.

Most other manufacturers have to compromise somewhere:

  • Want multiple shots? You’ll probably lose some air efficiency or slug stability.
  • Want quieter operation? You might trade off muzzle energy.
  • Want compactness? You’re shaving barrel length and losing velocity.
Texans lean fully into their role as long-range, ethical hunting machines, especially in big bore calibers. It's a case of not trying to be all things to all shooters—and that single-mindedness is what makes them so effective.

7000 psi seems like a bad idea ...I mean we were really iffy about the 4500 psi tanks when those came out. If you need 7000 psi at that point just get a fire arm
From what I have seen, there is so much more we can do at 4500 psi, take my .308, at 990 fps with a 150gr boat tail @ 3400 psi and I'm hoping lower to 3300 psi with a new valve and still get 990fps, this is the max for a 1;14 twist. as you can see, with a faster twist you could bump the psi from the 3400- 4000- 4500? plenty of room for growth without going to 7000 psi
