Anyone Else A Pack Rat and Hoard Their Pellet Tins?

Lol im guilty as well, I've been wondering...where do i take them to get filled up with fresh pellets!? I want to use my empties as targets as well, paint em a bright color first... however I would omit the gravel maybe and use clay or sand?

I thought pea gravel over sand just because it'll stay in the tin a little better than sand. But clay is great, that's probably a better option. Thick and solid

Just an idea nothing I have done but maybe mix a little quikrete, drill a hole in the side of the tin put a bit of string with a knot, put the lid on after it cures.

I haven't thrown away a pellet tin in over 30 years. Actually the last pellet tin I threw away was over 50 years ago. It wasn't even a tin it was a plastic pellet container from Sheridan.

I hang on to the screw tops for sure. I use them to store other things. I got a new priming tool awhile ago, and keep the changeover bits in one. Also keep.177 patches in another in the drawer.

Lol I'd probably shoot the string off on the first shot.
I'd say clay for the win; easy clean up & inert, can be reused just add some water, & should never get a richocet from it if its 'fresh'.
I recall Ted (Ted's Holdovers) painting them and using them as distance markers or targets in one of his videos....

I keep saving my most of my empty pellet tins. I use a few of them for lubing my slug cores. But in general they sit stacked on a couple of shelves. I had a “Brilliant” idea for a safe exploding target, but it wasn’t fully thought out and fizzled . Here’s one shelf with the last few months of empties - seems a shame to waste them. These are mostly the AEA tins. We should have an empty tin challenge.View attachment 21216

I’m going to leave them for my children to deal with. After they throw them away they will find out that antique pellet tins are highly collectible and will have to admit that I was smart to save them. Posthumously laughing at them from heaven!

I guess if a person were to pack the tin with pea gravel, a few dabs of super glue and hang them however is preferred that's a cheap target. Might try it soon.

1/4 or 3/8 all thread rod 10 ft stick is 10-15$, somewhat bendable for hangers. A person could get wood "sammy screws" that rod threads into ... unlimited

another more serious thought. Screw the bottoms to a board, fill it with something like a lead sheet or steel plate, and only have to change the top portion when it gets too chewed up to use.

We have hung them on Waxed string from tree branches since I was a kid. When the pellets where in those long rectangular tubes.
Missing some good fun not shooting those. I fill them with plumber puddy and shoot them in the basement sometimes.

I keep mine in too, mostly to keep track of shot counts. This is the "empties shelf."...



Highest stack there has 32 or so tins in it.

Theyre organized (mostly) by heaviest to lightest, left to right.
Multiple stacks of the same thing mean same pellet but two different guns.

Highest shot counts are:
The far left 6 stacks are all variants of the .22/25.4 MRD.

Tallest stack and the shorter one in front of it are .20/13.73s (from Veteran and Ghost, one stack for each).

Double stacks next to each other that are the second highest are all .177/10.34s from my USFT. 52 or so total tins there.

Quite a few of the .20/18.9s in there too, those NSA boxes are two deep, so 25 or so boxes total.

The little cluster of tins on the front right is what's so far been fired from the Black Wolf.
