How are the 22 variety of alteros slugs doing? Anyone texted them at similar speeds to the 25 varieties?

I'm new to longer range shooting(100+ yards), and still learning what hold the gun likes, but at 100 yards the 49.5s did great out of my vulcan 3 @940fps. I tried them slower (850-910) but didn't find them to be more accurate. I only shot a few groups after polishing the barrel to see if accuracy improved and it did(accuracy increased by roughly 25% after barrel polishing). Best 5 shot group out of 3 groups at 100 yards was right at 0.5 moa with the 1st 3 shots being around 0.3 moa (i know hard to believe!). The altaors 49.5 grains are definitely more capable than I am.

The 60 grain queens @880fps did well also. I only had 100 of the 60 grain slugs to test, and at 150 yards was right at 1 moa (the 60 grain test was done before the barrel polishing so accuracy might have improved now but im all out of 60s to test!).

I will try turning down the fps to 890 again with the 50s and see if the vulcans recoil is easier to control on target when I get time. All of the shooting was done from a bench with little to no wind.

Bingo. Even if accurate at 940, and no better at 890 I’ll guarantee you the gun is easier to shoot and more efficient at 890. That’s a no lose proposition. Plus you don’t use NEARLY as much air. Don’t forget the short KYLs with the 1/4 inch small spinner are very hard to hit at 50Y and require a steady had and smooth shooting gun.
PS., the 60 grain are very good, but I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze.

I love reading this kind of stuff even though I don't understand all of it yet because I can't learn with just paper I learn by doing. So when I was tuning my .25 huben for 33.95 , it would not shoot them accurately at all around 850-920 , once I cranked it up to 955 I could pull MOA groups at 100 with them. Isn't each situation / rifle different? Every barrel and pellet combination different? Sorry for my crude post in a thread full of expertise.

Don’t forget the short KYLs with the 1/4 inch small spinner are very hard to hit at 50Y and require a steady had and smooth shooting gun.

I signed up just to reply to this post, since my favorite airgun activity is shooting a KYL rack at 50 yards with my .25 Maverick Sniper (Superior Heavy liner) slinging 34.9gr NSA slugs (940ish fps usually). I rarely see anyone post about KYL shooting, and it's very different than shooting groups (what most folks post about). So I never had much of a baseline for how 'hard' hitting the 1/4" spinner at 50 yards really is.

In theory, it shouldn't be that hard, since a glancing hit on just the 1/4" circle only requires a hair less than 1 MOA at 50 yards, and even easier if you consider the hanger to be a 'hit' as well (as I do). But a 1 MOA group on paper isn't the same as 5 shots within a 1/2" ring; i.e. precision vs. accuracy. All in all, I suspect it's a good bit easier to hit the 1/4" KYL at 50 yards than to stay within the 1/2" 100-ring on an ARA target , which great shooters do 90%+ of the time with rimfires (and airgun pellets?). I suppose doing it with airgun slugs is considered more difficult than either of the aforementioned, owing to the oft-discussed difficulty of obtaining MOA accuracy with slugs in most airguns. But with the right airgun+slug combination, I suspect it's easier to do with cheap (<$.08/rd) slugs than equally-cheap rimfire ammunition. Top match .22LR rounds like Lapua Center-X are like $0.35/rd!

Personally, some days I struggle to hit the 1/4" KYL at 50 yards, some days I'll hit five in a row. It really requires the stars to be aligned (me, gun, wind) to reliably land back-to-back hits. But I'm a mediocre shooter shooting off a $30 bipod; maybe it's no challenge at all for a good shooter off a rest with a decent airgun/rimfire.
