2026 Rubber Duckie 120 match report.
The North Coast Airgun Club held it’s first Rubber Duckie 120 AAFTA GP at the Rochester Brooks Gun club in Rush NY, 6/20-6/21/26. Special thanks to Rick Vaeth and Rochester Field Target for hosting and assisting with the event. It was great to be able to bring a Grand Prix back to the area after a year without one.
We decided to forgo a pistol match and sign in on Friday to have a later start on Saturday than most GPs. This allowed folks who lived close enough, to be able to drive in later on Friday or early on Saturday and hopefully not need to take extra time off of work.
Both the woods and field course were in pretty good shape (thanks to Rick and Doug) when we showed up on Friday for set up, and just needed some extra help from the green hat crew (Rick V, Doug R, Greg S, Paul M, Daryl VW, Shawn P, and Dan P.) to get them ready. The plan was for all to shoot the woods course Saturday and finish in the field on Sunday. After getting all the targets placed in the woods we headed out into the field and made short work out of placing blocks and marking target locations.
Saturday morning people started rolling in after 8am for sign in and sight in. We had a few folks who pre-registered that had to drop out, but ended up with 22 shooters. After our shooters meeting we headed down to the woods course. The day stayed sunny and 70 but we had some winds that made people happy to be shooting in the woods instead of on the field. However, although the trees and brush provide a good windbreak, there is a small creek that runs through the back half of the lanes and can cause some very interesting wind “swirls” that are tough to read. That may have contributed to a lot of tight scores across the board.
For those of you who have not shot a match at the Rochester Field Target Club, they have an incredible group of core shooters. It always amazes me how they will patiently (and quietly) wait for the last person to finish shooting, and then will walk out to help tear down a course. That group effort was appreciated and let us head back to the club house rather quickly for lunch and a raffle. A HUGE thank you to Pryamyd AIR who donated a Nano/Nomad compressor along with some Air Venturi Rat on the Run field targets. And to Hard Air Magazine for donating some Beeman rifles.
After lunch and the raffle, the field course was set. We decided to use some of the fence post floating stands that you see at NOA and Sherwood in Ohio. Why you ask, because shooting in a windy field is not enough fun with targets on blocks, we wanted to have some that were elevated above the grass line in between lanes.
Sunday we arrived to a beautiful sunny day in the 70s with typical Rochester winds in the field. After a brief shooters meeting we squadded everyone up and took the short walk to the field course. Even though it doesn’t show it in my score, this had to be one of the nicest days I have ever shot in field target. The course was tough as a grand prix set up should be, but it was sunny without being too hot, the wind was challenging but not too frustrating (most of the time), and the two man squads made it seem more like a monthly club match.
When all had finished, we were able to tally up the scores while most people walked out to help tear down. Since it was decided to not have a lunch to give people a chance to get on the road sooner, we went ahead and handed out the Awards near the sight in range and field course. No shoot offs were required.

I’d like to thank all the shooters who decided to come out to The Rubber Duckie. A special thank you to Rick, Greg, and Dan for putting up with all the questions and planning. And recognition should go out to Pat S and Janet M. Number one, for being as pleasant as they always are after traveling with their “sometimes” grumpy husbands to ft matches, but most importantly for all the help during our GP. They truly made the event easier for everyone.
It’s a busy Grand Prix season from the Great Lakes Midwest to the East coast this year, and the plan was to set up an event that felt more like a two day local match, that did not take a lot of time or money to attend. Judging by the responses during and after the event from people who were there, I’d say we succeeded.Photo Dump Link: PHOTOS
