Interesting nobody had mentioned the World Field Target Championship which is just starting a few days from now. The volunteers have put together 3 very challenging courses and we are finishing up the final run through today to make sure all the targets are working properly.

Barbara and I have been helping for the last 7-10 days and will be volunteering at the match.

Tony, thanks for posting this news!

Personally I have always found it very difficult to get information on this event - wherever it has been held. I would love to publish more about it if possible.

Will you be able to share some photos and information here in the HAM Community? I am sure many of us would like to know what happened.

Thanks to both of you for volunteering! I hope everything goes well and that the event is a HUGE success 😀

So much has been going on….Air Gunners of Arizona opened their “Crusty Critter” Tuesday FT shoot today at Ben Avery and they also set up sight in ranges both in Imperial and Metric lanes. I was at Rio helping put, but I heard over 80 folks showed up to shoot the FT course and use the sight in ranges.

Tomorrow is registration and sight in at Rio….I will try to get a few photos up for you soon. We have been working form 0800 to about 1700 for the last week…

To say some of the lanes are “Bitchin” would be an understatement….

Everybody is signed in, the sight in range was open from 0800-1500 hours. We got every person through sight in…

Tonight was a welcome dinner with Native American hoop dancers. It was very cool to watch.

Tomorrow is day 1 of competition. I will start posting pictures then.

So yesterday was over 14K steps and today 15K😱😱😱

Running the sight in range today, it was interesting to see the different safety practices….Everybody did a very good job following the rules we have at Rio Salado overall.

One thing I did learn from a competitor from another country is using a whistle for a cold line and hot line. He said every Field Target competitor knows what 1 whistle blow and 2 whistle blows mean.

Until tomorrow

Day 1 is done!! So I said I would send some photos so here they are. Sight in boxes set out every morning before match….we get to the range at 0630 Hrs. and leave about 1800 hours.

Some people got caught by the Rio Salado wind especially around noon when it changes and switches direction. Some folks did really good!!

So only 18966 steps today…This guy is beat up for sure.

Day 2 starts tomorrow so I will have more to come.

Only 16378 steps today 🤭

Morning briefing about to start.

Everyday a safety briefing was given, questions answered, and lane assignments given.

A few photos of the match. These are the yellow and blue corses where I am a marshal. I will try and sneak down to the white course tomorrow. Completely different terrain.

Best part is a guy walking where he wasn’t suppose to be and running away from a snake 🤭 Not this one a real one…

A few “ Billy Goats” painting the targets after the match. Ed and Mark were 100% go getters!!

Each day all 150 targets were painted after each match

If you folks click on the link above you will get today’s scores….a shout out to John K….His scope took a “ dump” on him, but he shot the entire course even though he didn’t hit a target. I call that one HELL of a competitor !!!

As always we opened up the sight in range after the match and I hope John got it figured out…

John K. If you need anything just ask tomorrow!!

P.S. Now it is time for bed

Todays report….we saw the sunrise at Rio, but forgot/too busy to take a photo….Here is the sunset…Yes we were still there😱

IMG_0853.jpeg
A great sunset for the last day. Tomorrow we will take down the ranges and there will be the awards banquet in the evening.

Today it was a bit brisk so we had a fire by the chrono station to stay warm. IMG_0152.webpBy day 3 we were a little punch happy🤭

No snakes today it was too cold. But there were shoot offs, in both springer and PCP….It is amazing watching these Pros during a shoot off. Nerves of steel for sure. Two targets 1 near 1 far….They go though seated first. If there is a tie of knocked downed targets, then they go to kneeling and then standing. Only 1 shoot off went to standing…

Well I am beat so after the banquet tomorrow I will post a few more pictures….The boss lady has a few pictures of the white course and I will get them up soon.

Aleve here I come!!!
