The American Air Arms EVOL Mini .30 HPS with 12-Inch barrel is now in stock at AoA.
This latest version of the EVOL is equipped with a custom, “cut rifling” Sub-MOA barrel and follows-on from the full-length EVOL 30 that became re-available back in March.
A compact rifle, the overall length is just 33 Inches with the Magpul AR-spec buttstock extended. It’s 3 Inches less with the shock retracted. The weight is approximately 5 Lb 5 Oz, plus scope.
You can add about 24 Ounces to that when fitted with the Sightron S-TAC 3-16 x 42 riflescope shown in the photographs. That’s a good-looking, practical combination that – co-incidentally – is the same scope Hard Air Magazine fitted for our review of the EVOL Mini in .22 caliber some time back.
And yes, the EVOL Mini was a HAM Gold Award-winner for its performance on test. We’re expecting a similar level of quality and performance will be found with this latest EVOL Mini .30 HPS!
The Picatinny scope mounting rail is machined with a 50 MOA inclination for ease of sighting in long-range shooting, without maxing out turret adjustments. The long lower Picatinny rail allows for plenty of bipod positioning options too.
As with the full-length EVOL 30, the Mini also features an externally-adjustable regulator. This can be adjusted using the screw in the front of the air tube (below). The hammer spring tension can be adjusted to balance the output, as required.
Maximum power is 90 Ft/Lbs. However, the gun ships set to a 70 Ft/Lbs level for shot count reasons. Despite the small HPA cylinder and large caliber, the EVOL Mini .30 HPS can be set to achieve up to 35 shots at 50 Ft/Lbs.
The trigger is factory-set for a crisp release at 8 to 10 Oz. There’s also an ambidextrous safety accessibly from both sides of the action.
In our HAM review of the Mini in .22 caliber, Doug Rogers described the same trigger as “beautiful”. Later in his notes, he elaborated a little more: “I don’t think we’ve tested a better one”, he wrote. That’s about as good a recommendation as you can get!
Of course, an important element of the American Air Arms value proposition is that it is entirely manufactured in the USA. Every part, including the Magpul pistol grip and buttstock. Most parts are manufactured in Arizona and the gun is assembled there too.
