Depends on the use. Hunting and heavy duty plinking or pesting? 10-15 ft-lbs, heavy in .22 or possibly 20. Lightweight plinking and close pesting? .177 6-10 ft-lbs.
And manufacturers? PLEASE put more picatinny rails on for.scope mounting! And more guns with factory peep sights!
Pyramyd Air has the Noricas, and Keystone Airguns handles Cometa, but the owner is having some health problems, so you're going to have to check to see when they're up and running again. Though the AirForce International breakbarrels look like they're Cometa-based.
How do you shoot with an aperture, Kragman? I've found myself using them more and more, especially if I can get/trim to a narrow post.
Or, not the most precise, the fiber optic sights will work surprisingly well at close range.
Honestly, your 2289 with either a replacement breech and a 4X AO scope with a red light would be great. Springer, a Norica Titan or when Keystone Airguns is back up, a Cometa 220 with the scope/light combo.
If you don't have to worry about ricochet, one of the full-auto BB guns.

Tariffs are based on when the product is loaded at the foreign port. So at least for the
US, there isn't the "Surprise!" effect of a tarrif hitting the day before something arrives in
