Hey everyone,

Just got back from one of the most fun airgun adventures I’ve had in a long time. We took the Western Airguns Mordax .25 PCP deep into the remote high country for an off-grid RV camping trip—and let’s just say the ground squirrels didn’t stand a chance.

The Mordax absolutely proved itself as a semi-auto powerhouse in the field. Fast follow-up shots, serious knockdown power, and it just feels right in the hands when you’re moving through rugged terrain. I have been very pleased with how it has been working for me on these trips, packs easy as well.

The best part? Terry rolled in on his motorcycle mid-hunt with his Edgun Leshiy, and we had a great time hanging out and getting to blast squirrels. Add Marley by my side, some RV camping in the high country, and you’ve got the makings of a real adventure.

I’d love to hear your thoughts—

  • Anyone else running the Mordax?
  • Semi-auto PCPs… are they the future of hunting rifles?

It definitely helps me when content like this gets shared around the forums and with other shooters, so if you enjoy the video, please pass it along. Every bit of support goes a long way in keeping these adventures coming!

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing your feedback.

Cheers,
Dana

@MountainSportAirguns Good to see the whole family out there enjoying nature together. It's always a pleasure to see Terry. He's funny. Seems to be a good shot too. Some of those squirrels I had to rewind because I didn't even see what you were shooting at. Do I think semis are the future of airgun hunting? No, but I think they have their place and their base. In a target rich environment I think semi-auto PCPs open hunters and pesters to more productive outings. 50 FPE in .25 caliber from that carbine pistol is good power. I'm not sure if I missed it. Which projectile were you shooting?

Say you had a sidwinder compact in .30 cal would you trade it for a .25 cal mordax venom long strike?... I am on the fence if I would or not. At first I was thinking ya, cuz the pellets are half price it will be my plinker and varmit gun and get a mid grade 30 cal to burn up my ammo I have for it. And then look into something 357 cal or bigger to use it to hunt game legally in mi. I wanna keep the full auto one way or another it's only a matter of time before they say hey hey no more of those.
I was pretty set on going the .25 cal road but now iam questioning if that's the road to go. Just wondering what others thoughts were.

@Harry Trigger What would you use them for? Hunting? Plinking? Pesting? If hunting or pesting, in which environment(s)?
I shoot paper targets up to 50yards off my porch, and squirrels any time I get an eye on them. I went with the .30 cal initially for all around up to coyotes and deer. But to hunt those legally here has to be .357 or larger. So I kinda have an over kill pellet gun for small critters, but also like slinging slugs into the horizon. I like doing everything I guess. I know with the compact I rigged up a sling cuz she gets heavy after awhile.

@Harry Trigger A suggestion - A .25 Mordax and .357 or .45 Rattler may be in the cards for you. I think a .45 Rattler would be better for deer. My .357 Rattler has not been a thought as a deer gun. Works for hogs and coyotes though. It may be legal with the right slug, but I think that a semi-auto for deer takes what little fun there is for me to deer hunt, out of the hunt.

The Rattler she kinda a hog herself? This was another road I was thinking at 1st cuz i didn't see any way to trade in my compact for the mordax that was feasible. So I was looking into a tad longer barrel for it just to gain that further out there squirrel or what not. Another kicker is i got a bunch of pellets, scope and moderator for it. I Ordered the day before she took a skit..

@Harry Trigger The Rattler is a hog how? I can shoot through a Rattelr .357 mag before I need to top off my reservoir or fall off the reg. If you're mainly shooting squirrels, a .25 is more than sufficient. If you know what you're doing you can take a coyote with .25 caliber, but you need to know what you're doing and have good shot placement. But this is with any caliber. It's just that a .25 is less forgiving (with mediocre shot placement) on coyotes than a .357. That is of course based upon my experience.

Was just referring to the size of her. I am pretty sure iam just gonna keep the .30 cal compact. We were just getting really comfortable with one another and i miss her and we had plans. And after the warranty runs out I'll see what's out there for mods, maybe by then they will have some kinda ability to swap calibers. I think they got things in the works look how the mordax morphed.
You can knock down a yote with a sling shot with a well placed shot, but you can't do it legally here.
My main reasons for even thinking about trading was the cost of pellets and the compactness of the mordax. There's always some pellet or slug sale. And really how compact does it need to be? She's fine the way she is. I'll just buy a box of .357 empty the box and refill with 30 then it would at least look legal, and probably only i will know and a few who read this rambling.
