Pinty Vanguard 22 review
The Vanguard hammer spring is not adjustable.
The stock hammer spring is too strong and to tune the aigun it needs to be changed.
How to change the hammer spring
This section will show the steps, with photos, needed to change the hammer spring.
It assumes that you already have the new hammer spring which will replace the stock spring.
If you need help with getting and tuning a new hammer spring go to the How to get and tune a hammer spring section after this one.



Remove trigger guard, by taking out the 2 screws.
There is a small spring held in place by the trigger guard, do not lose it.

Remove the forearm stock screw

Remove the stock

Trigger assembly and the small trigger spring are exposed.

Unscrew the rear trigger assembly screw.

Loosen (no need to take it out) up the front trigger assembly screw.

The hammer spring guide and spring will come out now.
Replace the hammer spring and insert the guide and spring back into the air tube.
Place the trigger assembly back and tighten the 2 rear and front screws.

Put stock back and add the small trigger spring like in the above photo.

Put back the trigger guard and tighten the rear and front screws.

Put back the forearm/foregrip screw.
How to get and tune a hammer spring
You will need a chrony and a way to cut steel springs (I use a rotary tool with cutting wheels) for this section.
OEM/stock hammer spring dimenions are:
Length: 61mm, OD: 8.5mm, Wire diameter: around 1.25mm
A hammer spring must fit over the spring guide stem and inside the hammer hole.
In the case of the Vanguard, the spring guide stem is 5.95mm OD and the hammer hole is at least 10mm OD (did not measure this).
A spring needs to be made from a special steel (not stainless steel) like 65Mn steel.
I buy all my hammer springs from AliExpress.
For the Vanguard I used this spring (wire diameter 1.5mm):

I bought the 100mm length, 10mm OD option.
All the hammer springs I have bought over the years are from the same seller.
The spring needs to be cut and for that I use a rotary tool with a fiberglass cutting wheel.
The first cut is somewhere around the stock spring length.
Then install the new spring, measure the new velocity.
I keep cutting small amounts (1/4 to 1/2 coil) at a time until i get the velocity I want.
Below is the Vanguard hammer spring guide, longer OEM/stock spring on the bottom, my cut spring on top.

M6 washers placed on the guide stem, can be used to increase the spring preload

Shot strings
These are some shot strings I got with the same hammer spring (10mm OD, 1.5 mm wire diameter) cut to different lengths and using different M6 washers.
All pressures are measured using the airgun gauge.
For all shot strings the starting pressure is 250 bar and end pressure is 120 bar.
Regulator pressure is around 120 bar.
Pellet used in the shot strings is Crosman Premier Hollow Point (CPHP) 14.3 grains.
Velocity: 249/817 - 250/820 MPS/FPS
Shots: 18 shots
OEM/stock hammer spring
Velocity: 226/741 - 230/755 MPS/FPS
Shots: 54 shots (6 mags + 6 extra shots)
Custom hammer spring => Length: 56mm, OD: 10mm, Wire diameter: 1.5mm
Velocity: 246/807 - 247/810 MPS/FPS
Shots: 37-38 shots
Custom hammer spring => Length: 56mm, OD: 10mm, Wire diameter: 1.5mm
Added 1 M6 washer on spring guide
Velocity: 220/720 - 225/738 MPS/FPS
Shots: 56 shots (7 mags)
Custom hammer spring => Length: 54mm (cut 1/4 coil from previous shot string), OD: 10mm, Wire diameter: 1.5mm
On the 8th magazine velocity increased to around 231/758 MPS/FPS, pressure dropped to 100 bar.
