Benchrest 100yd 5x5 Challenge Inspired by Franklink

Shot some .30 caliber Slugs tonight, when I got to the range it was wind so I shot my Ghost with my new 23 inch barrel to practice in the wind as I have a 50 yard competition tomorrow. Then it was time to break out the Black Ghost with the Sub MOA barrel and start shooting slugs. I had time to do to targets. One with Air Impulse 44.5 grain and one with the new FX Halo 46 grain slugs.

Good shooting, they both did well. What do you think of the Halo slugs?

I am going to the Oregon Extreme benchrest Competition next month and they have a 100 yard BR slug event that I am shooting, and I am going to use those as of right now.

I went out and shot this afternoon and the wind was blowing. Stayed steady at 27 mph then it dropped to 14 so went and put out a 100 yard target. I was planning on shooting the Ghost but trapped the wrong bag so I shot the Sonoran with AEA 50.5 grain pellets at 853 average FPS with an SD 2.2 over 61 shots. I also shot one group of Impulse Air 44.5 grain slugs. Sonoran did not care for them as the average FPS was 838, I think is way to slow.

I tried some AEA 52.2 grain slug tonight. Winds right to left slight angling out between 2 to 6 mph Other wise sunny and 71

Shot these with the Ghost with the Sub MOA barrel. Have to say these are the best groups I have shot to date.

I really like those slugs. So does your Ghost. Some very nice 3-4 shot clusters.

The struggle is real . FX Panthera MKII .30 700mm. variable wind, uncorrected. 125bar, MHS 2.75, AEA 45gr pellets. The bag rider had slipped too far back on the rear bag on group #4. I really wish I had bought a different bag rider that was parallel and not angled at the front. I didn’t get to shoot much as we’ve had 2.5”+ of rain. The rifle is getting there. The spread still sucks. I tried 66. 2gr pellets . Next stop 140bar.

Your sd came down though. And those groups look like a 2-3 mph breeze same as ive been getting in those conditions. Sounds like a good plan

@Billm did you check to make sure your barrels were exactly the same length? I didn’t think of it before but that circular thing might be because your barrel nut is against the sleeve and not snug on the barrel.

The wind is being difficult lol. I just looked at the weather station results. It’s place at about 10-15yds from the firing line. I shot the 5x5 as it was getting dark, but the winds were only 8-13mph.

@Billm did you check to make sure your barrels were exactly the same length? I didn’t think of it before but that circular thing might be because your barrel nut is against the sleeve and not snug on the barrel.

I did not. I just slid it in and tightened it down. I did wonder about the fact that the barrel nut is not tightened to any specific torque. The whole barrel liner system seems a little haphazard.

Its a possibility your just supposed to snug the nut but if its against the sleeve and not the barrel it would account for the circular motion. I got this from strelok it a 1.3” target gun zeroed at 100 and the red lines are for a 2-5-10 mph hold off. This is for 30 cal 50.5 aea
