Southern Woods Airgun Coyote Hunting

I'm up in NE Georgia near Lake Lanier. About 18 months ago there was a boat storage that went in a formerly wooded lot and it drove a pack of yotes our way. That's the reason I bought a PCP and am here now. They would consistently make a racket in the middle of the night right behind my house. I had seen them during the early evening to dusk several times, with one looking to be a hybrid if that's possible. It was considerably larger than any coyote I've ever seen, with a dark, if not black, coat on it's back. But the rest of it's markings were normal. When I say larger, I'm taking half again bigger 60-70ish pounds and it seemed to have much less fear than the two behind it. Then after early last fall they haven't been around, that we heard.

If given the opportunity, I would definitely take a shot from the tripod.

On another note. As I was reading Bill & Chief's posts I started thinking "listen to these old far...". Then I thought "well you're not far behind"
I'm not yet three months out from a double bypass with ascending aortal repair and a stent on the 20th of last month... at 55 years old. But I think I'm still game to climb a stand.

They will kill dogs and eat them, but I would bet that some dogs have managed to breed with them occasionally.

I’m not lying, they scare me. The first time was on a Sunday afternoon. My grandson was looking out the back porch door where I sit and shoot. He freaked out and did a backflip over the sofa. I stood up and saw a mama bear charging at the door with two cubs in tow. I yelled and stood high and it veered off. They come from out of nowhere and have no fear.

I would be scared too Bill! Those things don't play, especially a momma with cubs. We have them up here too, and occasionally they go down the mountain into town, raiding garbage cans all long the way, and the people just go crazy. Taking pics and video like it ducks in the park. We also have what my grandparents called "sugar bears". These are a light golden color, and are small. Don't know what real name of them are, but they rarely seen much anymore. Ohh, and panthers. Big ones. Game and fish like to deny, but they here. I've only run up on 2 of those, and they were together t the river where I was fishing. I was in a boat, and they came right out to drink, no fear at all.

Better be careful doin that, old bones be getting brittle!, I'm 59 myself, and its been 20 years now since my body started coming apart. If its not a stand with steps, not a ladder, but stairway steps, I can't get up in them anymore. And it better have a good handrail even then! Getting old ain't for sissy's, that's for sure.

This was the Easter bears. These started in my yard and then went over to the neighbors fence line. I’ve had two sows with two cubs in my yard in the afternoons. They were almost two years apart, so not the same bears. I’m taking my grandson that hasn’t hunted out tomorrow to look for some squirrels and see if he’s interested in coyotes. Hopefully we won’t see any bears lol.
