Am I looking for simplicity or just lazy? You tell me.

I think, but not positive, that I am a lazy air gunner, you be the Judge.

I own 5 air guns total, 3 PCPs and 2 B-Brl Spingers. I am strictly a backyard shooter with 50yd max range.
Recently I have been practicing offhand shooting with my HW30. but that is not what I am talking about. Today, as an example, I decided to shoot targets I had previously set up on the range. I grabbed the 2 Springers out of the cabinet (HW50 & HW30) and went downstairs to shoot. On my way to the garage, I realized I have been doing this for the last several weeks. What is happening? The last time I shot a PCP was when my new AA S510 arrived. I posted about that on here. So, I ask myself what is going on? I tried to make some sense out of it. I bought the 3 PCPs new, the aforementioned AA S510 in .25, HW100 (125th Annv Model).22, and HW 110 .177 cal and any one of the three can ruin a fly's sex life at 50yds. so, accuracy is not the issue. The issue is simplicity or is it laziness on my part? If I shoot the PCP I have to charge the air cylinder and listen to that noisy ass compressor, set up shooting table, put the gun rest in place, disconnect the gun from the compressor, and I am ready to shoot. After which I have to take everything down. If shooting the HW50 or HW30 I simply break open the action, insert pellet, close barrel and either lean up against garage door or shoot off hand. I can hit all the targets, not as hard or as often but they all get a pellet. So, which is it, laziness or simplicity? I think I know but would honestly like to know your thoughts.
Thanking you in advance,
Ernie

This post is exactly why I have an HW50s on the way (should, could, miiiight be here Monday🤞) Love my Pcps dearly but if I don't have an hour + to shoot, forget it. They remain charged and at the ready for pesting or when I have time.
BBQ is on and i have a half hour to shoot? Springer.
Sun is setting and I 'need' to rip off a few plinking/paper shots? Springer!
Streamlining everything as much as possible is about the stage im at. Shooting table and target live in the shop. Target wagon in the barn. I can be set up in 5 minutes or so🧐.
it's convenience....not laziness😆!
Then off to the house for airgun of choice & ammo.

You will enjoy the HW50.

Just your preference is all… The simplicity of cocking a springer, loading a pellet and sending? Cannot be argued against. That PCPs need further support? Just another choice. For me PCPs simply outclass springers for my useage. That springers can git it done is not the issue. Some shooters, myself included simply enjoy the versatility of sending with PCPs.

Definitely going to say preference. Because if I have small window, I'm more likely to grab a pumper or my pinty pcp than anything else. If the Pinty is in the safe, then just a pumper. But I'm also that guy trying to convince the world they need to Fall For Pumpers. Vary the power, no extra equipment, light and quick to shoulder for off-hand. 🫡

For me, the PCP's are always what I go with first. Probably because to me, not only are they an enjoyment, but a tool. I train with what I use. I don't grab the Ben Franklin when a 'Yote or a Trash Panda attempts to raid my chicken house, or when a skunk tries to feast on the cats food under the car port. I grab a Condor, or one of my other PCP's. Or maybe its because I just can't physically do all the pumping, or cocking any more. Either way, for me i'll stick with my Pcp guns.

I don’t enjoy shooting my Diana 48 as U find it kind of harsh for a .177 and a pain to cock, which is a shame. In my mind there is nothing more fun than a sub-12 .177 break barrel or side lever and a tin of 500 pellets for fun. The simplicity and convenience of being able to go through most of a tin in a couple of hours, with no table, bipod or chronograph is blissful. I had years of fun shooting my Diana 35 and FWB 300s. I shot my airguns for 40 years almost exclusively with open sights - it’s all about the convenience. I now love shooting my PCPs with 25 or 30x scopes, buts it’s a different experience.

The opportunity cost of choosing the springer over a PCP is performance. You're gaining convenience, at the cost of results. I'm wording that with "results" because I shoot airguns seeking precision, and to me results are the precision I seek. If your idea of "results" are knocking a soup can around, your springer versus PCP debate swings a bit back the other way.

As the distance increases, or desired level of precision and accuracy increases, the opportunity cost (performance) of the springer versus the PCP becomes more and more appreciated.

There is room for both PCPs and Springers, I think we can all agree on that. As stated, before I have both types and enjoy both types. As a personal example, I got home about 4:30 and decided to get in a little offhand practice. I always keep an assortment of targets set up in the backyard ranging from 30 to 50 yds. I grabbed my little HW30 and shot for about 30 minutes and had a good time. The two things this post has made clear (that most already knew) is the Springer is more convenient but not as accurate or as powerful as the PCP. Now, let me ask a question that will open up Pandora's box. If the PCPs had been developed first would the Springers have been developed to the point they are today?

That's a tough one. I suspect yes, simply because PCP airguns WERE developed first, and suffered due to price. Top springers are still less than $1,000, top PCP $3,000+.

Thx for the response, FL22 posted an article from PA that really gave a great history of the PCP. I am relatively new the sport and have a lot to learn about it.
