PCP Why? Why not at this price and simplicity?

The GAMO Arrow…. $179.00 (at Pyramid Air) pcp to teach that youngster how to shoot. Why would you choose a pcp over a springer to teach a new shooter the ins and outs, other wise known as the fundamentals? Maybe the only springer/piston pellet shooter you have is a GAMO big cat. That Big Cat is going to punch that youngster in the shoulder and cheek hard enough to discourage em. The Arrow, not even close to being irritating.

Sure the Arrow came out several years ago by now, but there’s always new comers to the airgun world and not all of em have a $2500-$5000 budget. That’s exactly where Pyramid air and Airgun Revisions come in to the picture. Why? Because they don’t cater to just the big wallets and platinum cards.

I have my own multi-thousand dollar kit and I love it. I also have several, few hundred dollar kits that I love. This Arrow that I just picked up will reside in the same room as all the rest and it will get shot probably just as often as the rest. I rotate through all the guns in my room. I don’t want any of em drying out and being unusable. And besides, the Arrow is just so simple. Remember those days; simple.

Back to the new shooter, whether young or old. They’re going to start off at 10-20 yards. I shot this one at 10 yards just to get the scope on paper and then adjust from there. Well, the UTG accushot 3-12x44 doesn’t have enough vertical adjutant for me to zero it on the crosshairs so I ended up using the moa dots. No biggy, I can yank it off and use the open sights. After all, this isn’t going to be a 50 yard bench gun. I still enjoy open sights, so why not give it a try.

At 10 yards, the Arrow is pretty well stacking the 10.3 gr Hades one on top of the other. What would make a new shooter happier than blasting the bullseye out of their target time after time. And what would build their confidence any quicker than a simple “take it out of the box, air it up, load the magazine and start shooting groups with nothing else to do?” I’d recommend a barrel cleaning but it’s not entirely necessary.

Then print a 40 shot group smaller than my thumb. Come on, your son or daughter would be over the moon and bugging you to shoot tomorrow and the next day and so on and so forth.

The Arrow is unregulated and it will show. But seriously, do you think they’re gonna care about the spread of their 50 pellets when they’re destroying the coke can across the yard or ringing your gopher target with every squeeze of the trigger? I hesitate to even include the string of 40 shots, but it’s just for info. At 10 yards, there’s no discernible difference in POI. I mean let’s be realistic here, most people wanna show the groups they shot. I’ve yet to see 10 shots through one .177 hole or .25 hole or what ever. But here’s the string anyways.

The very first 10 shots off this fill were on a different string. Those are here….

I know, it would have been easier if I didn’t brain fart and start the entire string over after 10 shots, it is what it is.

In the end, I have zero regrets on this purchase. Is the trigger a match grade two stage wonder? Nah, but it’s typical GAMO decent. A little rubbery feeling before the hammer falls. The stock is a little on the fat side of things. But hey it’s ambidextrous and the charging handle is actually pretty nice. The safety works well and is easy to reach. Fit and finish is pretty nice at this price point. No sharp edges on the molding of the stock anywhere that I have found. The magazine is easy to load and insert (from the left side only). It might be challenging to remove once empty as it clips in on two spots, just pull on it a little harder, it’ll come out, as long as the bolt is to the rear that is 😉.

Pick one up, load the magazine and go enjoy shooting with your kid(s) for a lot less than a new phone or video game that they’ll just ignore you with anyway.

Happy and safe shooting.
I'm attracted to the wood classic version. I can see it as a backup ratter w/ my ATN LTV scope mounted. I'd even consider the $ for a regulator ( let the howling begin) to level off the curve.

I ha e both the .22 versions. The black and the classic. The basic one was my first PCP. Love them both. The basic one loves the 14.3 CPHP's, the Classic likes the 18 grain stuff. Guess it's because it's lot more power. They are both dead on accurate, and ha e taken many many tree rats. Starlings and a couple of stupid trash pandas(with the classic). They are both excellent fun to shoot.
