The Hill Dry-Pac Pro Air Dryer Filter looks like it will be a really useful product for many airgunners who fill their PCP airguns from a HPA compressor.
It’s well-known that PCPs need to be filled with DRY High Pressure Air for their long-term reliability. Indeed, many PCP manufacturers advise doing this somewhere deep in the “small print” of their support documentation.
The results from can be very undesirable, as this HAM report highlights.
But how to get that dry air?
Until now there have been very few desiccant systems available that will give you that DRY High Pressure Air. (In fact, we can only think of one). So the addition of this new Hill Dry-Pac Pro Air Dryer Filter is a very welcome addition to the market. And at $129.99, the price is definitely attractive…
This is a product that’s designed to work specifically with the “Air Venturi EC-3000 Compressor by Hill”. However, it can also be used with any other HPA compressor having a maximum output of 4,500 PSI.
The manufacturer says that this new desiccant system provides four stages of filtration:
Stage 1: PMV (Pressure Maintaining Valve) Regulated Condensation
Stage 2: Activated Carbon Filters
Stage 3: Absorption Desiccant Media
Stage 4: Micro Fiber Filter
As with all desiccant filter systems, the Hill Dry-Pac Pro Air Dryer Filter requires replaceable, consumable media that trap the moisture. Two such sets of media are included with the basic product.
It is recommended that the filters and media be changed every 10 hours of use, or every three months, whichever comes first.
Hill has produced an excellent video showing how to install – and re-fill – the Dry-Pak Pro system. You can see it here:
(Translation note. This is a British video, so it uses “English English” language. US viewers may like to know that a “spanner” is a “wrench” and that an “Allen Key” is a “hex wrench”.)
Again, as with any in-line HPA desiccant system, using the Hill Dry-Pac Pro Air Dryer Filter will mean an increase in the run time taken by your compressor to fill, or top-up your air rifle (or tank). However, there’s no question in the HAM Team’s minds that this is definitely worthwhile. It ‘s not intended use with a hand pump, however.
The Dry-Pac Pro system uses 1/8-Inch BSPP connections. This is Hill’s normal practice. However it means that – if you want to use the system with regular 1/8-Inch NPT (“Foster”) fittings – you’ll need to buy a couple of adapters when placing your order.
These two Air Venturi adapters will be needed, one at either end of the Dry-Pac tube.
This is definitely a great “insurance” product that all PCP airgun users should own and use if filling their air rifle from a compressor.
