The 177, what most of us started with.

A lot of us started with a 177 pump when we were kids, mine was a crosman 2100.

As we get into “adult” AG’s, 22 cal is often the small caliber we choose.

Last year I got into 30y benchrest shooting and wanted to challenge myself. I chose the 177 caliber. Afterwords my 177 rifles started to multiply! I found it really rewarding shooting those little pills.

If you have room and the budget, I highly recommend getting into 177.

How many people currently have one in their collection? How often do you shoot it?

When I was kid I thought that's all there was It's funny bc my dad wondered why in earth I bought a TX in .177 after having my S510 in .22 and absolutely loving it. I am pretty certain I will always have one, maybe 2 in my collection as well. PELLETS ARE SOOOO CHEAP Springer in .177 make better sense to me, easy to calm down, good trajectory, etc. Also my quietest gun along with the .177 Slavia. I definitely DONT need it but.... a laminate sporter S510 in .177 is tempting me! As you mentioned inside 30Y it's all you need. I took 2 skunks and some cats two years ago with an 18FPE springer. 1 shot drops not a problem.

I started with a Beeman R8 in 1983. Very accurate rifle and beautifully made. It now resides in my friend's collection.

Yes, I went through the .22s, .25s, and .30s for long range BR shooting, but I started first with a RAW TM1000 for FT an 25M BR. This was the most accurate rifle I've ever owned so far. But along the way, I had a number of FWB 300Ss, Beeman R7, Beeman R9, AA 510 and Daystate Revere. All great rifles. But one day when I was competing in a 100 yd BR event and struggling to dope the wind along with my other fellow competitors, I had a strong thought about whether a .177 could be competitive with the larger calibe guns. So.... I had Martin of Airguns-USA build me a RAW HM1000x in .177. I was quite surpised that I came in third in the next match when the wind wasn't very strong. Then the next match, I came in third again and the winds were their usual gusty 18 mph. My scores were in the same ballpark as the guys shooting 22s and 30 cal rifles. I'm really getting to appreciate the .177 again.

I still have my 327 pumper I bought back in 2005 I think it was. As a backyard shooter (replete with suppresser) it is almost dead quiet. So are the pests it hits too!

Speaking of .177... I am aware that nitro piston airguns are available in caliber up to even .300. But if you go to WallyWorld (those that still carry them), they're all .177. Even Big5 (at least here in Roswell, NM) only sell them in .177 and a very few in .220. Same goes for BIgR Sporting Goods. In my honest opinion, one of the reasons (there are many) they shoot like shotguns, is most are trying to propel .177 pellets at super-sonic velocities. All this related...

I do own a Diana 54 in .177, which as we know, is a springer—no nitro there! Amazingly, 25 yard groups are very good, but longer ranges not so much. Part of its issue is the velocity hovers around 650 FPS with 8.4 Gr. RedTips. It could be my backyard shooter, but I don't like the thump-thump it delivers. Did I mention, it is hard on scopes?

Yes sir!! My HW95 walnut.177 “Scarface” only shooting it open sights so far.

oh yea, you turned on the wayback machine. I had a 1964 Diana mod 50 in .177 i was king of the hill.
it got destroyed in my dads car wreck a few months later when he used it to get rid of some rats at my grand fathers place, i cried for days, and i never got another one. it was all steel and wood.

Crosman 760 as a birthday present back in the 80s. Currently: another 760, a Legacy 1000, an M417, 2 M4-177s, a 1377, and a P17, as well as several BB only guns.

At present I have a Benjamin Akela in .177. Took it out for the first time today in an attempt to sight it in, but the only pellets I had were cheap, old Crosman flat head/wadcutter type pellets. No idea what they weigh, but I’m guessing they’re on the lighter side. They shot rather poorly, but I didn’t think to turn the TP adjuster down and see how they’d do until I was at home. I did discover that I need a cantilever scope mount for the Akela, however. I have the rings as far forward as they’ll do, with the scope’s turret housing almost against the front ring, and it still wasn’t far enough forward for me, especially while prone (no table where I was today).

I’m not sure if I’ll keep it long-term or not. Seems to be well made for what they cost, but we’ll see. I definitely enjoy the low cost of shooting it, though!

Get some real pellets (not wadcutters) and try it some more! They are beautiful guns.

That’s the plan! The wadcutters were given to me by my father, along with a cheap single pump Crosman he used to keep in his camper. They’re the only .177 pellets I have right now, so I plan to order some soon!

Everything I own, and it’s a fair amount, is 177. Airguns in 177 fill the perfect niche. They shoot a small, lightweight projectile that is perfect for the backyard, small pest control, and target shooting. They are also cheap to shoot. I have no interest in larger bore high powered air rifles. I have powder burners that are much better suited, convenient, and cheaper to buy and shoot for that.

I seem to go through 177 and 22 caliber rifles like underwear! Currently my only 177 is my classic leshiy!

Have gone through quite a few and honestly have settled on the 22 for general use.

I’ve got a a m3 and a revere in 177 really love field target so i sling a lot of small pills! Have other barrels and guns but the in 177 probably sees the most use!

All of my air rifles love the Air Arms pellets. They are amazing! Supposedly made by JSB but definitely shoot better than they do in my rifles.
