Today we’re looking at Nova Vista and Macavity Arms – two innovative airgun companies that were exhibiting at IWA OutdoorClassics 2024.
1. Nova Vista
The first of today’s innovative airgun companies is Macau-based Nova Vista Company Limited.
I’ve been meeting-up with Nova Vista since the IWA OutdoorClassics show in 2017. During that time, the company’s product range has steadily expanded.
Nova Vista has a well-publicized relationship with Air Venturi, which has resulted in the Air Venturi Avenger and Avenge-X models. Indeed that relationship is headlined front and center on the Nova Vista booth.
For this year, Nova Vista has announced a second generation version of their “Pneupump” model, with built-in hand pump (below).
This has been sold in the USA as the American Tactical Nova Freedom and also as the Seneca Aspen. Whatever the name, it was HAM Gold Award winner and we look forward to seeing the improvements in the “G2” version.
Nova Vista has also moved up into big bore territory with the Pneumax. As we can see below, this is available in two versions. One has twin HPA tubes with internal regulator. The other uses a separate regulated HPA bottle.
The Pneumax is slated to be available in .30 and .35 calibers. Either way, it looks like a sidelever-operated monster!
There’s also a Pneumax version that’s fed from an external carbon fiber HPA tank that’s carried on the user’s back, like a rucksack.
The Cobra is a new regulated PCP air pistol from Nova Vista. It’s available in .177, .22 and .25 calibers. When combined with a collapsible stock and bipod, it also becomes a compact carbine, as we see below.
The Cobra pistol was also shown in a fitted case with wood grips, all three caliber barrels, breech bolts, magazines and single shot trays, making a very comprehensive package.
And now for something completely different! Nova Vista also showed the Commando Model BB20 gas ram-powered, break barrel air rifle. It’s the top one in the photograph below.
The big difference with this Commando is the radical stock design. This is an unusual wood and Aluminum stock. I found it comfortable to shoulder and very stylish, however the result was pretty heavy!
2. Macavity Arms
The second of today’s innovative airgun companies is Macavity Arms. The company first appeared at the 2024 SHOT Show. I missed them there, but caught-up with them in Germany!
The founder and CEO of Macavity Arms is Frederick Lee. In fact, Macavity Arms is his second airgun-related company as he also is the founder of Sekhmet – the digital PCP pressure gauge company.
Frederick showed me the company’s range of PCP air rifles that are scheduled to become available in late Summer, 2024. This is the MA2 Sniper model and calibers span the gamut from .177 to .30 caliber.
So why “Macavity Arms?”, I asked Frederick. “Oh'” he replied, “It’s the cat!”.
Yes the company name is inspired by Macavity the Cat, the “mystery cat” from T. S. Eliot’s poem and made popular again by the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Cats”.
And if you’re wondering, Sekhmet was the name of the ancient Egyptian goddess of war and healing…
Stella from Macavity Arms showed me the .30 caliber MA2 model, below.
There was also a very early prototype of a carbine Sniper version with “exoskeleton-style” stock. Interesting! Frederick says that there’s a lot of new stuff to come from Macavity Arms.
Keep watching, there’s still more reports to come from IWA OutdoorClassics 2024!
