I have always been a springer guy, but my lovely daughter gifted me an Avenger because she's afraid I'll quit HFT because of "springer shortcomings!" A not unfounded fear! And I'm amazed how easy it is to hit things with this! My problem is how to feed the durn thing. I have a pump but I'm 83 years old.... there are no dive shops within a 150 miles ... I would use a compressor only to fill the gun.... anybody willing to advise me in the choice of a moderately priced compressor?1000004051.webp

I also have and strongly recommend the GX line of compressors.

I would also advise you to buy directly from them through their website “GX pump official” they usually have a 10% code listed, free shipping (US warehouse so ships quickly) and you may not have to pay sales tax.

Avoid Amazon for one unless you like to throw money in the street.

GX4 is an awesome choice for a compressor, especially with it's water cooling to keep temps down. I've used the GX compressors for about 4 years and they hold up well. Can't go to wrong with an Avenger either! I've got three of them, one in 177, 22, and 25 caliber. Great guns until they start leaking!

After the guns start leaking... can they be fixed? Re-sealed? What then?

Generally speaking yes.

I work on my own and several of us here do but many others do not or cannot for various reasons.

I would ask you is that something you want to do?

if not, make sure to buy an Airgun with a very good warranty from a very good and reputable dealer that is an authorized service center for the one you purchase.

In my experience, do not buy directly from the manufacturer of an Airgun.

My reason for this is simple. I had a warranty issue and I had to pay for the shipping to send it back to the manufacturer (Umarex). Repair was covered, but having to pay $60 shipping for something that wasn’t my fault has never and will never sit right with me.

I have had issues with other Airguns that I have purchased from a dealer with an excellent reputation (AoA and PA) they paid for the shipping and repairs or refund.

If you want to work on your own Airgun, I would encourage you to get one that is more popular and that has a good parts availability and if you’ve never worked on one before then watch some repair videos or read some threads here on HAM.

If you bought it new you can send it back to the factory for warranty repair. Just have to call Air Venturi to get a return label and I think an return authorization number. If you bought it used with no warranty you can send it to Wayne Reid at Alien Airguns and he will repair for a reasonable fee. That's just a few options and I hope this helps!

GX are fine compressors.
But I am a fan of buying the cheap auto-shut off compressor on Amazon and adding the 4 year Assurance warranty.

About 1/2 or more less than the CS4 and good for four years. If it dies, new compressor. If it stops filling to set value, new compressor.

Just set up my nephew with a Yong Heng (my former backup compressor I sent him died in less than a month). No worries for 4 years.

Is the "cheap auto shut off from Amazon" you're referring to the Yong Heng?

Started with the Yong Heng 4500 psi compressor and it did fine for over a year. Only minor problems until Saturday. While topping of my bottle, it started making a load noise and spraying oil out. Found that the case cracked and there are not replacement cases available. Had to purchase another . Moral of the story, don't push these cheaper compressors to hard for too long.

The GX website is very comprehensive.
I just have a cheap compressor and a 30ah battery. Put it in the wagon and wheel it down to the range with the Rifles. Used a Marine fuze as the on/off switch. Only takes about 4-5 minutes to fill a Aircuda. I just bypassed the heavy air tank thing altogether. This combo is a little over a gallon of milk.
