We get a lot of questions on scopes? So im here to help guide folks on some of the questions they should ask themselves before making their decision. There are so many options today it can be hard to find what's best for you.
Do your own research, the world wide internet is a wonderful place full of great information. Youtube is a goldmine for great detailed videos full of details and insights on products. Keep an open mind when watching reviews and / or reading them. Take the good with the bad.
Q) What am i using this scope for? Is it hunting? Benchrest? Plinking? Or a good all-around scope?
A) for Hunting and / or plinking a good 3-9x40, 4-12x50 is always a good option simple reticle with multiple aim points to account for pellet drop.
A) For benchrest, are you shooting at 25, 50, or 100 yards? For 25 meters, a popular scope is a 36x fixed power, for 50 yards 45x fixed power and for 100 a 10-50x56 is very popular. Can you use other magnifications? Yes, it's all about what you are comfortable with and get your best results.
Q)What is my budget?
A) Your budget is ultimately up to you as the consumer, with all things you get what you pay for. If you buy a 50 dollar scope from amazon, dont expect much.
Q)How much should i spend?
A) Spend what makes you feel comfortable and gets you in the game. But again, remember you get what you pay for. Scopes have come a long ways, there's tons of options for every budget. The budget ended scopes are way better today than they were 10 years ago.
Q)What's the best brand of scope?
A)There are so many good brands that it's hard to say one is the best.
Q)Should i use a clean or dirty reticle?
A) Clean reticle's are a good choice for beginners as there is not a lot going on and you can learn your reticle much easier. Dirty reticle's give more information and aim points. Both great but again personal choice.
Q)First focal plane, or second focal plane? What's the difference between the two?
A) First Focal Plane (FFP): The reticle's subtension is fixed, so it magnifies at the same rate as the target when the magnification power changes. This makes it easier to choose an image or zoom ratio without extra calculations.
Second Focal Plane (SFP): The reticle's size doesn't change as the magnification power changes. Both are great it just comes down to once again what will work best for your needs.
Q)Do i want MOA or MILL, and what's the difference.
A) MOA and MILL are both angular measurement systems used to adjust shots and predict where bullets will land on a target:
MOA
Stands for "minute of angle" and is a smaller measurement of a degree. MOA is the most popular system among shooters in the United States.
MILL
Stands for "milliradian" and is part of the metric system. MIL is also sometimes called an MRAD. Both work great, but again, what will work in your situation will be how you make your choice.
