Fired my 250z an uncounted number of shots this morning but I am sure it was around 100-shots or so.

I told on here yesterday that my 250z was throwing an occasional flyer while using AEA 21.9gr. Solo1 offered me a good bit of advice on checking the bore for high/rough spots that might be grabbing the pellet. I did not do that as I had polished the bore meticulously when the rifle was brand new. The bore scope showed a near perfect looking bore. Otherwise I would have followed that advice.

Yesterday I decided to try increasing the regulator/velocity very slightly to see if the flyer issue showed any change, and it did. After increasing the regulator about 50psi the flyers appeared to come more frequently, and slightly worse POI. I have had a feeling for some time that my original tune was pushing the velocity right up on the edge of where the AEA 21.9gr wanted to fly. But, I wanted to push them a little higher just to see what happened.

So, this morning I decide to go the opposite direction on the regulator. My original tune had a reg. pressure setting of 2050psi. Yesterday I pushed it up to 2100psi. This morning the gauge needle is dead-nutz on 2000psi.

I'll need to shoot the rifle a few more days to confirm results, but I can honestly say that my flyer issue appeared to be gone during this morning's shooting! I was able to put down several 5-shot small ragged hole groups back-to-back without a single shot ruining the groups.

Of course, there are so many other factors that play into the results of any particular morning of shooting that I am not claiming I was able to tune-out the flyer issue just yet. If the flyer issue appears to have gone away, or minimized after a few more shooting sessions I'll report it as fact. But, I am feeling confident that I am on the right track toward resolving the flyer issue.

Got out the Uragan 2 700 .25 around Noon today. Fired several 5-shot, 50yd groups with the Altaros 'Smooth' 49.5gr slugs at 890fps. Wind was light & switching but made minimal POI shift.

This is enough shot-to-shot consistency for coyote hunting to 75yds!

I had the exact same problem with those pellets in mine. They were the only pellets that I even considered to shoot out my 250z and they would usually throw one flyer out of five shots. No matter what size slug you think your gun likes, you should try the JSB KO .216 20.83gr slug, or the the Zan .217 23gr, no flyers. My gun also didn't like any slugs from H&N or NSA, which I was not too happy about either.

Okay, I'm going to give the JSB Knockouts 20.83gr a try in the 250z. Had to order some more Altaros for the U2 and the vendor had the KOs in stock so grabbed a tin.

I have not been buying Altaros slugs on purpose because I just know they would shoot so well that I would have to buy them. Not only that, but every time I'd shoot something and miss with something else, I'd wonder if I would have hit using them. I'm just a recreational plinker. I'm just a recreational plinker.... I've got to keep telling myself this, everytime I log on and see how those slugs shoot. Or hear about C'Cut shooting across windy valleys and smoking the competition. They, seriously, are too expensive, for me anyway. I can't wait for someone to figure out a way to make them cheaper.

I wish that AOA would add “newest” to the sorting drop down menu so that I no longer have to do the Airgun death scroll , the old web page had it.

Raised the pressure on the max 1 to about 160 bar, it raised the fps average (6 shots) on jsb exact king heavy 33.95 to 925 area. I walked back in my basement to get new targets and noticed water dripping. My ice maker in my fridge decided to malfunction. By the time water shut off to the ice maker/mess cleaned, it started raining . Well I'm out of time till tomorrow, good evening folks.

Recently, Pumacarl and I have replied in various threads regarding 'fliers' we are getting while using AEA 21.9gr in our 250z rifles. The last couple days I have been experimenting with minor regulator changes pushing the velocity higher, and lower than my 'standard' tune for the 21.9gr.

Based on my shooting results the last few days, I feel like my 250z likes slightly less velocity than what I had been shooting (950fps) the AEA 21.9gr at. Overall, my shot-to-shot consistency has improved and it might be considered 'debatable' as to whether 'fliers' are happening with the latest tune.

In an effort to be fully transparent on this subject, I am showing the whole target from this morning's shooting and not just cherry-picking the best groups.

I fired twelve, 5-shot groups at 50yds on the target below. You might look at the results and think there are some 'fliers' in a few of the groups. I am not sure I want to call those outlier shots, 'fliers'??? When I consider my own shooting ability, the rifle's actual accuracy, minor wind shift, changing lighting from the rising sun, and other factors we all deal with when we shoot..., I feel like all the shots on this target are within the range of accuracy I expect.

To summarize, I feel like the 'flier' issue I was experiencing with the AEA 21.9gr is now a non-issue. What do you think? If you fired the target below would you call those outlier shots, 'fliers'?

Barra 250z .22, AEA 21.9gr, 5-shot groups, 50yds. The bottom left group is my first group of the day. Very often the first group I fire on any day is the worst as I get my shooting form in-line.

If I could get every group like the one in the bottom right I would be an elite shooter!

In truth, I am not as skilled behind the rifle as when I was younger. There might have been a couple shots that appear as fliers that I didn't expect. There is an equal share of bad shots that can be attributed to my shooting form breaking-down, and wind push.

Regardless of true fliers or not, dropping the velocity a little did improve the issue.

I'm kinda excited now about trying those KO 20.83gr that you like with your 250z!

Think I'll walk out back now and shoot my U2 off the sticks just for a little pre-hunting practice.

Yep 4 days to travel 45 minutes away. It was shipped from Jacksonville Fl on 9/4 and according to them it is still in Jacksonville Fl., and it has been 5 days with no delivery in site. Perfect!

Your U2 is the answer to your question. It doesn't seem, seeing your groups from the other day, that your age was a problem for those. That gun with the ammo you were shooting wasn't giving you flyers. You've still got it!

Hopefully the KO's will work for your 250z like they did for mine. I shoot them at 980fps usually. I am currently trying 995fps and they seem to shoot as well. I think wih the twist being 1in18" instead of 1in16" you should stay above 950fps for sure, but these slugs like fast.

I walked out back about an hour ago with my U2 700 .25, shooting Altaros 'Smooth' 49.5gr at 890fps. I took just one 10-round mag full. Took my sticks, turkey seat, and range finder.

I sat with my left side against various trees and rifle over my sticks. I fired at old grey stumps or downed tree limbs at random distances. Distances were between 68yds and 97yds. Even though my self imposed max. distance for shooting at coyote is 75yds, I can say that every shot all the way to 97yds would have been a clean brain shot hit! Felt good to do that shooting exercise!
