I apparently decided to have amnesia, as I went out and shot my avenge x .22 and after a mag I noticed my shroud coming off with every shot. Sooo I put it away. My fun budget will be back next week so I'll order a better barrel band instead of modifying the stock one. Those evolve 3D bands are extremely solid and have a better grip. Aaand then the wind and rain hit as I was getting the max 1 out.

I will say the Silent Thunder Ordinance Pugio has pared extremely well with any rifle that has a shrouded barrel. .177 to .25 25 fpe to 65 fpe. Even tossing it on the loud pinty buster it's impressive. Great sound reduction in a small package.

Tumbled, then lubed some more AEA18.3s. I sure go through a lot of pellets! I should keep track. But then I'd realize how much I spend on pellets.

Just finished my early morning shooting session. My primary goal for today was to check my Daystar's zero after having cleaned the bore a couple days ago. Zero is exactly perfect so I can get back to ground squirrel hunting tomorrow with confidence.

Also put 20-shots through the 250z at 50yds. That rifle continues to shoot 5-shot groups at MOA average with AEA 21.9gr pellets! I have tremendous confidence in the 250z.

I felt it was too hot this morning to do any shooting today, so I pulled the .25 18-inch barrel out of the Escape and put in the 12-inch .20 barrel. I have some 20gr Zan .20 slugs coming at the end of the week, so I wanted to get the gun ready to give them a try. Good thing it only takes about 5 minutes to change a barrel, or I would wonder if I spent more time swapping barrels than shooting. I might have to start putting on one of the yard sale price stickers on the back of the tanks so I can keep track of what barrel is in which gun.

I think sometimes I spend more time tinkering than shooting

Was wondering what scope is that and do you like it?

It is a HT 3x12x40SF FFP Discovery. I like that it is small and light weight, but the etching is almost a light blue color to me rather than black and sometimes that can be hard for me to see really well so I probably would not get another one like it. I have another one of theirs that is a VT-Z 4x16X50SF FFP Discovery and I love that one, it is bigger and a bit heavier but very bright and the etching is very easy to see.

Took the 853 out for some trigger time. Pull was about 4 lbs. Shot bell at 50 yards off hand, then moved to 10 meters. There I started on my 23 and me metal silhouettes, hit the field targets set up there as well, and then hit bell from 35 yards. All also off-hand. Silhouettes ranged from nra sized ram down to Itty bitty mouse silhouettes. Had a ricochet go up and hit tree above me then drop into my hat. Always safety up!

So, I faced the heat to shoot the .177 Vectis for the second time. I knew I had to lot more tuning to do and possibly some trouble shooting because the first time was awful with the slugs. About a 3-inch group at 30 yards. So, I started out with some Crossman Premieres because that is the only pellet I have in that caliber just to make sure the barrel wasn't bad. Given that they were shooting at about 1024 and were not horrible I figured the barrel is okey. Switched back to slugs and was trying to get the speed just right and still no good so took off one segment of my moderator and it seemed to do a bit better. Took another segment off the moderator and the group shrank down by half of what it was. Now it is a 1-inch group at 30 yards. I started to melt and had to head into the AC. Still more fiddling to do to get it right but now I am on the right path. Amazing how much it has changed so far. I was using a .30 moderator to avoid clipping, and the smallest moderator I have is .25 and I will try that one next and may have to get one for .177/.22. It is telling me I need to go revisit the .22 Condor slug barrel because I never tried removing any segments from the moderator and now, I see how much of a difference it can make. I bet the H&N 36gr that did pretty good would be a tack driver if I started pulling the segments for the .22. Opps my mistake it was the .25 moderator and that is the smallest I have because I normally go up one size to avoid clipping though it has still happened a couple of times in the past. I will try taking another segment off of it next time.

I needed a new budget scope for my Gamo Whisper .177 “super plinker”. I got a Midten 3x9 32 AO from Amazon. Seems like a nice one. Turrets feel good , glass is good with lots of light. Cross hair reticle, no dots. I got it zeroed pretty quick and grouped well. Should be a good plinker for a while Anyway, I really am enjoying this one right now. Just thought I’d tell the other “bugeters “. Anyone familiar with Midten ?Stay well all

30-shots through the Daystar (zero check), and 20-shots through the 250z (just trigger time).

During the time I am actively hunting with my air rifles, I check zero every single time on the day before I am going hunting. To me, there is nothing more important during hunting then to make certain the rifle is perfectly zeroed. If it's not, then all my hold-overs/unders, windage and dial-ups will be off.

Back to the squirrel fields tomorrow.

Took the HW30 downstairs and cut a can in half at about 26ft. Just sitting on a chair, it was at least 60 shots or more using .177
That last little piece took the most shots.
Cleaned the barrel check screws, put back on Rack.
It's been hard to get around lately, but this day has been more like it was. A HOT day that I avoided outdoors.
Usually it's CO2 but I felt physical today...lol

I was out behind the house ground squirrel hunting this morning. Quite by accident..., I almost got a coyote!

I had just sat down next to a tree and had my rifle up on the sticks. I was watching a large old stump where I know squirrels live. Within about 30-seconds I caught movement to my right and glanced over to see a coyote trotting past at about 18yds away! He came from the same direction I had just walked! Quickly, I cocked the rifle and moved my sticks to my right about 40-degrees! I had the stock on my shoulder and I had my left had on the parallax knob! I started to suck on the back of my right lower thumb! Immediately the coyote responded and came right back to the last place I saw him at 18yds! I had the reticle on his forehead and was trying to get parallax/focus when he turned and headed back the direction he was headed! He only stopped for one second! I continued to make squeaking sounds and I could glimpse him through the Bitterbrush circling out in front of me! He was headed to my downwind and he wouldn't stop again! Oh, so close!

Got a new tripod today! After extensive research, I hope I made the right choice. I want something that can be used tabletop, but sturdy and tall enough for the field. After a pretty exhausive search, I found a carbon fiber Sirui. The leg lenght is short enough for a really solid bench unit, and long enough for the field, at 52" from the bottom of the saddle. The legs start at 29+++mm and it comes with a rock solid 43mm ball and arca setup.

I played with it tonight and I am really happy with it, and the price was right! $160 for the tripod a$29 for the saddle.
