The new Western Airguns Roadrunner HPA Compressor provides a range of benefits, including a choice of electrical power inputs, light weight and extended warranty.
Previously, Western Airguns has been know for – er – airguns: like the revolutionary Mordax selective-fire PCP carbine. But now the brand is expanding into accessories, optics and airgun ammunition.
First, let’s say that the Roadrunner is a compact and portable HPA compressor. It weighs 20.9 Lbs. Dimensions of the main device are 12.5 x 6.75 x 14 Inches. That makes it easy enough to carry around using the built-in handle.
Electrical inputs can be provided by mains electricity – the Roadrunner automatically senses if a 110 or 220 Volt AC supply is connected. Alternatively, jumper cables are included so that the compressor can be powered by a 12 Volt car or truck battery.
The third option is to attach a rechargeable 20 Volt, 18.5 Amp/Hour 21700-series battery used for power tools. (It’s better-known as the Makita style). This battery and charger are not supplied, however a connecting adapter is built-in to the compressor and automatically senses the battery when connected.
The Roadrunner offers output pressures of up to 5,000 PSI, courtesy of a selectable automatic cutoff valve. It also offers an extended run time, courtesy of the combined oil bath and air cooling architecture.
To achieve such extended run times – the compressor is rated to fill bottles up to 9 Liters in size, or even top-up large HPA tanks – the Roadrunner uses a highly-specialized, proprietary synthetic oil. That accounts for the oil breather and sight gauge included with the product.
The top plate features an analog, settable pressure gauge. There’s also a digital display that indicates the temperature of the gauge in operation and other user messages.
A small moisture-trap filter system is included. This works using the familiar “cigarette filter-type” inserts.
However HAM recommend the use of an enhanced ceramic (or similar) moisture filter system to prevent the ingress of damaging water vapor into your favorite PCP air rifle. Western Airguns will have this suitable desiccant system in the near future…
The Roadrunner is supplied complete with a carrying case, oil, filters and a selection of appropriate O rings and burst disks.
The Roadrunner’s warranty is a for pretty-much unheard-of length. It’s two years. That shows the confidence that the manufacturer has in the long-term reliability of this product. The price is $879.99.
