The Hatsan Zada is a somewhat unusual entry into the airgun market. It’s available in .25 caliber…

In fact, the Zada is unusual in a number of ways. Firstly it’s being sold at a very low price point. OK, let’s say it: it’s cheap! The selling price is just $129.99.

Announced back in February, the Zada is shipping now in the USA at Pyramyd Air.

Secondly, it’s available in .25 caliber. That’s in addition to the expected .177 and .22 calibers, of course.

Third is it’s “black gun look”. There’s a non-adjustable, but “AR looking” rigid buttstock, combined with a “box magazine” outline to the stock ahead of the trigger and pronounced pistol grip.

Doubtless these visual cues will appeal to a section of the market.

Performance-wise, the manufacturer’s specs for the Hatsan Zada are pretty beefy. The claimed Muzzle Energy is 20 Ft/Lbs in .177 caliber, 21 Ft/Lbs in .22 cal and 24 Ft/Lbs in .25 caliber.

Given the Zada’s light weight – just 6 Lbs 3 Oz – it’s likely that this gun will have a definite recoil. So it’s interesting to note another unusual design feature for this air rifle.

The combination “dovetail plus Picatinny” scope rail is made of a shock-absorbing polymer, instead of the usual Aluminum. Hatsan says that this prevents changes in the point-of-aim resulting from the effects of recoil.

The Zada features a shrouded barrel with built-in silencer. The laws of physics tell us that – as usual – this will be ineffective if shooting light pellets in .177 caliber, but is likely beneficial with slower pellets in the larger calibers.

Open, fiber optic sights are included with the gun, as is a 4×32 scope and high rings.

There’s a manual safety for the adjustable two-stage trigger. Hatsan has combined this with an automatic cocking safety.
