Spring/Piston TX200 177 pellet choice

Hit up 40 yards finally with my TX today! The light RS pellets fell apart. The 8.44 gr opened up a fair bit and the 10.3 held it together! Finished with some plinking on these 4 yogurt cups @40 with the 10.3gr, held 2 dots up vs dead center with all the other pellets. Smashed 3 and missed the fourth (of course) and then shot 3 more and all connected as 2 cups stayed standing. Decent Ft lbs still with that pellet at 40, I'm sure they'd knock over FT targets no problem.

What speed are you shooting the 10.3's at? Norma Jean shoots the 10.3's the best and she is pushing them out at 775 FPS....

Lol I'm working on that still....made this mount last night for it. I have not chrono'd them yet just the 7.9 and 8.4 gr to date. Doing my best to just shoot the few different different pellets I have so I get good at what shoots where @ what distance but you know how that is! The 7.9 were 920ish fps and the 8.44 were about 880ish fps I believe. So prob close to your numbers for the 10.3.

Heading out soon for a little practice with Norma Jean, at a friends house before the Sonoran Classic this weekend....What the HECK was I thinking shooting a 2 day competition with a springer....Time to be humbled for sure.

Practice went pretty good…wind was light, but kicked up some so at 55 yards there was a little over 1 mil hold….After hitting a bunch of targets down I tried standing…yeah I suck!!!. 3 out of 10 at 30 yards and the targets were pretty big too

Fun time though hanging with a friend and shooting.

So after day 1 I was in 1st place by 2 points....Today I finished with the silver medal. I dropped 6 more points than the person who got the gold.....was I upset, kind of, but it was my "springer mentor" that beat me and we shot together today....He got me by 4 points by the end....Nothing but encouragement and laughing between us.....What a great time shooting with a good friend....Funny part is we are all named Tony who took the medals.

We all were shooting the TX200....

Back when I bought my tuned TX200 from Jim Maccari in 1998, he recommended Crosman 7.9s, so that’s what I shot in FT. Later I found that the UK competitors favored the 10.5gr Crosmans. Today I like the JSB 8gr pellets. I’d recommend testing all three.

Putting this here, seems only right....cleaned my TX.177 barrel over winter and haven't shot it since.
The JSB and AA 8.44 gr pellets have been unseated as the kings! The JTS 8.7gr, H&N FTT 8.64gr (4.52) and the FX 8.44gr (4.52) absolutely stellar out of of mine. The gun is zeroed for 30-35Y and all these 10shot groups were shot @ 25Y hence all the groups being a bit high. The ONE flyer for the H&N FTT pellet was horribly loose in the breech and I though about wasting it but sadly I shot it anyways and wrecked a near perfect group....so I shot 1 more and it went in with the group nicely. The first 5 FX I shot all were touching...shoulda stopped there! The JTS diameter is not given but they were REAL tight going in and needed extra effort to seat them. Changing brands (& therefore lead composition) in my mind is far better than changing pellet weight in a gun.

DAN: My TX200 in .22 cal likes the JSBs 15.89 gr, just as many do, but a new, and wonderful discovery for me this past year has been the Benjamin Single Die Pellets. They've been a bit hard to get, but worth the wait for me. I initially bought 4 tins from Pyramyd, and then 4 more. They're almost gone now and I've got 12 tins on back order from Pyramyd now. I've waiting since the end of last summer for them, I just hope thet they come in soon. Fortunately, I've got plenty of other ammo on hand while I wait. By the bye, I donchoose to shoot off brand or cheaper pellets in my TX200 or HW97k. The lesser quality pellets just make my shooting off target, so why bother? Sure, I could plink with them I suppose, but I enjoy target shooting which requires some semblance of accuracy. Keep on shooting, Orv.

I remember hearing that you were waiting on those pellets, D&L up here finally has stock but $22cdn for 400 is RICH$ and my .22 pcps like heavier food. So far my TX loves the JTS, H&N FFT, and any 8.44gr 5.52 AA/JSB/FX. I would not hesitate to use any of the 5 in competitions, or pesting. If it's a tight fit it will usually group well. Nothing I have from crosman is as good out of it. I was worried loading the first JTS pellet, I had to beat it into the barrel...absolutely accurate though.
