Spring/Piston Two year old TX200 MK3 (TBT kit) makeover project!

I believe that more testing is due all around for my troublesome TX200. It is finally coming apart (intentionally that is) tomorrow. I received an email from the tech at Air Venturi yesterday with a drawn out diagram for me to follow. This poor tech is wise enough, after dealing with me several times, to annotate implicitly his repair instructions. So tomorrow, bright and early, I'll sit in my gazebo work station, ready to strip down my TX200 and initiate the repair once and for all time. I hear you scoffers, but tomorrow is the day! I shall complete this repair once and for all time. Please be gentle with me, my friends. I'll have my "return to Air Venturi " lable ready to print and return via PirateShiping. I do so hope for a successful repair. Tomorrow is the day.
I believe that you can do it, Orv!! Don’t be too quick with that return label 👍👍.

Well we are just a quick message away sir! Literally. I know these rifles fairly well, feel free to ask anything if you need guidance on yours, whats the issue again... It wont cock?

Well I am loving my TX200 again! Shot paper just after lunch for a while, then got these 2 starling (youngsters) with it while on the bench. 28Y on the first bird and he dropped on the spot, the group flew to my tree line (100Y away) and then quickly landed back down in my lawn. Got the second one 50-60 yards away and the pellet make quite a thunk on impact. He flew to the tree line again with the others but never made it to the trees. Finished with some pop can plinking from 40Y to 90Y....could not hit the last can, (and the wind had picked up😓) so I finished it off with the S510 lol.
Next session I will get some chrono numbers as i am dying to know! It seems the low first 2 or 3 shots issue is gone now.😏
Center bull is first 10 (11?) shots with AA 8.44 pellets @ 26Yards...no complaints with that!

That's awesome! I'm glad that you're feeling good about it these days. Motivates me to want to install a kit in mine.

When I bought my TX200 a couple of years ago, it shot fairly well at around 15 fpe. It's a .177 and I'm a paper puncher. I don't feel the need for power and the Brits seem to live well with their 12 fpe guns. So, I installed a Vortek 12 fpe kit in mine and I couldn't be happier. The vibration was gone, it is easier to cock and accuracy is superb. With 8.4 gr JSBs, it hovers around 800 fpe, which is right where I want it. I did the same thing to my HW95 as well.

I was thinking about doing the exact same thing. Good information.

Thats the information I need to hash out here with the chrono #s, I used the full power kit but it definitely was not putting out "as new" numbers right after the rebuild. I hope for it to settle around 13fpe which has proven to be about the sweet spot for both power and accuracy. If you crave accuracy above all else (I mean....I kinda do😓😂) than I'd go with the Sub12 kit for sure too.
If it settles in at 12fpe...so be it. It is currently shooting very sweetly as far as sound, cocking effort, and shot cycle. If going sub12, I do wonder if short stroking it would be a good option? TBT has that kit option i believe.
Good group there @jps2486! I can **sometimes** pull that off with 5, my 10shot groups almost always open it waaay up!

I used a TBT guide kit (old white version) in my TX with the stock spring and Vortek seal, I lost about 40 fps with that seal and it never came back up. It would shoot the 10.3 at 13 fpe.

I had a lot of plastic flakes all over inside, so I removed the TbT guides and installed a Vortek full power kit. It was hard to compress to get the bolt in and cocked heavy after, shot it for a few hundred like that. I cut 2 coils off the spring and it was easy to compress and cocked nicely after. The shot cycle was much better and felt like the TbT. The crazy part is the fps never changed, 13 fpe, 10.3 @ 755.

I gained 10 fps using a breech seal combo of 70 duro(stock) on the bottom and 90 duro on top. The top seal still looks new after 1k shots or so. I was surprised by the fps gain.

I want to short stroke the TX also but not sure how I want to go about it. I don’t think the Tony Leach kit is available anymore.

Just cut a coil and a half off the spring that you currently have and that should bring you in just around 12 fpe plus or minus a little. I've found that the springs are the same between the HO and sub 12 kits except for the number of coils.

Obviously not for the HO Vortek spring in my case.
