Have posted a good bit about my Vet II .22. Really do love that rifle- enough to get her a little sister in .177. Different caliber & stock material, but otherwise the same. Same 550mm barrel, "tactical" trim, scope, rings, & even bubble level. She does still need a pretty green ribbon in her hair though.

Trigger was rather different than the .22 out of the box; not bad but different. The Taipan trigger looks complicated & a bit intimidating when you first remove the side plate, but it's really not. Very easy to see what each adjustment screw will affect once you start turning them. Making small, incremental changes, took about 10-15 minutes to get it matched to the .22. Moderately long, light first stage, clearly defined wall, ~6 oz break with minimal overtravel.

Wish I could tell you how dialed in it is, & with what projectile, but weather has not been my friend for the 10 days or so since she arrived. Every minute of free time during daylight hours has been met with very strong winds. Not ideal for getting a baseline on pellet preference, dope etc. Adjusted to ~900 fps with JSB 10.3 & got a (very) rough zero at 30 yards, thats it so far. 30 shot string had an extreme spread of 9, so it doesn't appear that the reg will need much breaking in. Plan to test the JSB 10.3 & 13.4 for sure, maybe AEA 10.3 as well.

The .22 set a very high bar- pictures below of three consecutive 5-shot groups at 65 yards, shot a few weeks back.

That's awesome Greg! It's nice to have familiarity between guns, especially when they're really good ones. I hear you about the weather and the wind, I haven't seen a really good range day in the past month. Summer's coming!

@Pumacarl - Familiarity is definitely the goal in this case. Sort of a play on the old "beware the man with one gun" saw. Ain't one gun, but if the grip/butt/caliber engraving were taped over, darn if you could tell the difference by picking them up & settling in for the shot.

@Fishing 43 - Nice to meet another Veteran aficionado!
Have seen a number of calls for a Vet II compact, seemed to be a popular option for the Vet I & Mutant. A bit surprised that it isn't offered in the Vet II.
The 550mm is pretty compact, but not like the old shorties. Some would appreciate the weight savings too.

The 550 is pretty compact but the mutant and the shorts are what I like most. I’m a squirrel hunter and shoot a lot of pest birds at cattle feed lots in my area.
