The Seneca Dragonfly Mk 2 Synthetic is a forthcoming new version of this multi-pump air rifle. For me, the big news is the price. It’s just $159.99. That’s $40.00 LESS than the original Dragonfly Mk 2 when it was introduced back in 2022!
What, lower price? Yes, it’s true. The reason is that the wood furniture of previous Dragonflies has been replaced with a black synthetic buttstock and pump handle.
Hard Air Magazine reviewed the wood-stocked Dragonfly Mk 2 in March 2022. It was a Gold Award winner!
In that HAM review, we concluded that – “particularly in Mark Two version – the Dragonfly is almost certainly the best multi-pump air rifle out there. And at $200, it’s great value for what it offers.”
We see no reason to change that assessment. Plus, at $40.00 less, it’s even better value for money in 2025!
The Seneca Dragonfly Mk 2 Synthetic model appears to be mechanically-similar to the previous, wood-stocked version. However, the Muzzle Velocity claim is higher, so maybe there are some internal refinements.
The .22 claim for Muzzle Velocity with alloy pellets was 800 FPS. Now it’s 840 FPS. Pyramyd represents the power levels with varying pumps using this useful pictogram…
The primary value proposition for the Dragonfly Mk 2 is that it lowers the pumping effort by 50% compared to the original model while also keeping the effort consistent across each pump stroke, instead of constantly increasing like the older version and many competing air rifles.
HAM tested this claim and concluded that – after a total of 1,170 pumps! – that the pumping effort really is pretty consistent, irrespective of the number of pumps.
That – in itself – is a major advance over any multi-pump airgun that the HAM Team has ever used. It also validated the manufacturer’s claims for the Seneca Dragonfly Mk 2.
It’s very interesting to read this Patent. (You need to go to this web page and then type-in the Patent Number). It actually was intended originally for airguns (and airgun handpumps) among other applications.
A very comprehensive description and explanation, the Patent was extremely-well researched, including references going back to 1895. Bob Moss certainly knew what he was talking about!
The Pyramyd Air website shows availability is due for October 2025. The gun is chambered in both .177 and .22 calibers.
Oh, there’s one other thing…
The “Mk 2” designation is an abbreviation for “Mark 2”. This is based on long-standing British military practice. For example “SMLE Mk 3” is the third variation of the Short Model Lee Enfield service rifle. It’s spoken as “SMLE Mark Three”.
I’ve noticed that, here in the US, many people pronounce “Mk” in this usage as “M K”, that is two separate letters. That’s not correct, the correct usage is to say it as “Mark”. So this is the “Seneca Mark Two”.
