Others New drs tactical mk2

I hate to be that guy but it seems like I have amazing luck with these guns šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚.. because I haven’t even run a single patch through my barrel and this damn DRS is just spitting them out perfectly.

It’s funny I got lucky with the barra 250z barrel too. The karma is the only guy I’ve HAD to put in extra work to make it shoot how I wanted. But that’s mostly because I had a specific slug in mind.

Life just cracks me up because I’m supposed to be the ā€œpremiumā€ gun hater and I honestly feel guilty about how much I love the DRS.

It makes sense though. As much as I like the karma there’s no doubt that until now my barra was the sweetest shooter I’ve had. Cut all the technical BS aside, because ultimately a gun is only as good and the person using it. I think it just comes down to my shooting style. The DRS just feels more ā€œMe.ā€

Guys who have had the misfortune of reading my posts since barra days know that I’m obsessed with slug performance (expansion!) as much as anything else. This HEX slug I’m shooting out of it has me giddy. It surprises me that I haven’t seen Utah Airguns promoting it. The have no other options in .30 cal and despite my initial reservations I know this slug is a winner. I’m seriously considering testing it on a coyote.
Glad you’re so happy with your new gun! Lol

Well the solid barrel weighs 5.8 oz more than the stock barrel with carbon sleeve. I even got the hardest oring in that i ever had to put in and the worst part of the whole thing was trying to get the end cap on the barrel to start on. Shot down to 200 bar going to let it sit for a bit to see if i have any leaks. Had to adjust scope right and up from before? Hopefully will get out to shoot tomorrow.

Just shot 5 slugs at 10 m 5 fps slower than the other barrel but the sd for 5 was .7. I think this setup is going to have better harmonics. All 5 went easily through the exact same hole.
Makes me wonder how mine will perform when I move up to the 60-70gr range. Because so far I haven’t even sleeved it.

Was yours struggling with all the slugs you tried or just the heavier ones?

I will say that when I put in the pin probe that I took off the tank/shroud but I didn’t remove the liner. I took the whole barrel assembly out together.

My Dominican superstition told me it was best not to mess with it šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Mine shot well stock with 33 gr. My groups started to degrade after pulling the barrel ti check if it was infact 1-16. Groups got somewhat better after installing the sleeve but not as good as stock. After shooting the solid barrel at 10 m it seemed easier to shoot the 33 h&n through the same exact hole causing me to think that the solid barrel has better harmonics all the different settings shot pellets well another reason to think harmonics.

Ok so i got out to shoot this am. Have a few pics for you guys. This is all with the new solid barrel. I was really happy with sight in but then a bit disappointed at 100 as it wasn’t as good as first shots out of stock barrel but they seemed to come around at the end. I want to try going down a bit on reg and try again. Shot 3 groups with the altaros with the same aim point as the 33’s which i don’t quite understand as the bc is double. Now i was using a steady aimpoint to judge group

All things being equal I think your current probably suits the 33s better than the 45s. If it’s the exact same tune then I’m assuming the 33s are going 100-110fps faster than the 45s?

I know the ballistic charts will argue that 850fps is an ideal speed for slugs because it’s the least susceptible to wind deflection around that speed. Once you go above 950fps they are supposed to suffer more wind deflection all the way through the transonic zone…. Or something like that.

I won’t argue the science but in my experience faster is better with slugs. Look at those Utah Airguns, Matt Duber and Gerard videos and those dudes are always shooting them fast. I think in the prairie dog video Justin at UA was shooting those 40gr Ace slugs a like 980fps.

TBH I haven’t shot .22 since 02/2025 and I’ve never had a slug shooter in .22 so I won’t claim to ā€œKNOWā€ anything about it, other than slugs are definitely finicky when they want to be.

I tried experimenting with heavier, slower slugs with my EQ and I ended up still going with the heaviest one I could get up to 900/905fps. Even after that I decided that I liked 62gr @945 and 59gr at 960fps better. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Franco Slugs

Yesterday I only had a few minutes so I tested a few 50gr Hollow point from Franco. I absolutely love his .25 cal slugs but he doesn’t do .306 so I couldn’t use him.

I shot a quick mag of the 50gr without touching the tune AT ALL haha… I’m a notorious tinkerer but the gun is shooting those Hex slugs so damn well I don’t wanna touch it.

The Franco slugs came out at 885fps and grouped up nicely at 30y. I’m less than 8 clicks in on the hammer spring so I know I can get them going faster. I don’t know if 950fps is quite on the table without touching the reg but I’m 95% sure this gun will do 100-105fpe with the reg below 150Bar.

I might play with the hammer spring more and see what happens.

I also have some 55gr Franco’s but I don’t expect to bust those out for awhile. I have 300 Hex and 200 50gr Franco’s to work through… Of course I shot 200 Hex slugs in 5 days last week so we’ll see.

Slugs what a pain! And just when you think why did i even bother bingo you find something magic! The other fx barrel shot the 33 h&n best the slugs were designed in fx barrels this new barrel doesn’t love the h&n but it loves airmarksman hex! I tuned down to see how the pellets would shoot but something happened lost velocity all of a sudden and sound dropped i was able to tune up again for the slugs but didn’t want to shoot more till i figure out what happened IMG_0945.webp

Nice groups. Range?

It seems i made a mistake in which slugs performed the best. After checking my crono it was the ace 40 gr on the top row and the hex on bottom. I shot the ace at 880.

For the sake of my own curiosity will you try shooting them faster?

For the Zan’s I hear they don’t like going faster than 920fps
Sorry but thats as fast as i can make them go so far. Their tough to shoot too as i have to take my single shot loader out put 1 in with it closed and then put the loader back in the gun

In my Dynamic with a Superior Heavy 700mm 1in16" barrel, the Zan ELR 42.3gr shot very well at 240y going 950fps.The AM 40.1gr shot slightly more accurate doing 968fps. My favorite, all around though, is the H&N Precision 33gr at 1040fps.

The only poor performing ammo that I have tried so far is the Zan HyperLine 40.7gr at 987fps. They shot all over the place, even at slower speeds, down to 850fps. I wish more people would try those and post their findings. They should have corrected the problem by now, but I am not buying any more until somebody says they shoot great.

Well isn’t that the thing? My original barrel shot 33 h&n very well best slug i tried the barrel in the solid barrel doesn’t like the 33 h&n at all. My orignal barrel didn’t like the ace 40 gr my solid barrel shoots them great! So there is no 1 combo of gun and slug in my mind. I think thats why the you tubers shoot fx a lot they get a chance to try multiple barrels pick a few they like and change them for the chosen ammo

@Pumacarl how many shots with the ace at 968? And what reg and hammer?
Remember, I'm not shooting a DRS but a Dynamic with the same Superior Heavy 1in16" twist 700mm barrel that most are shooting, and I have a 580cc bottle. My shot count is going to be a lot different. Believe it or not, I have yet to fill my gun to 250b and shoot it down for a shot count. When I shoot a lot, I shoot tethered, and when I'm shooting distance my 2.17L bottle is rarely filled enough to fill my gun all the way. It hasn't happened yet, lol. Plus, I have been tethering to that too, hanging it from my tripod. I did the math on it though and I believe I would get 30-32 shots at the level I'm shooting at. No, I am not going for efficiency. My reg is at 155b and my hammer settings are a whole other story. Right now they are at some ridiculous setting because I was experimenting with how much I could change the Macro and micro and still get the same fps. I went from 22, 3 to 7, 3.4 keeping the same velocity. The gun shoots the same between the whole range when the two are adjusted right to each other, it's a trip! And the kicker is that I find no real advantage to being anywhere. Once I get the H&N Precisions to 1040fps the gun shoots the same. It's quite amusing to me.

Oh i thought you had a 300 cc bottle and i was wondering about hammer weight was just trying to make rough comparison. I know matt shoots his pro at 170 bar i think he uses a tungsten hammer but am not sure he gets 15 shots i believe at like 980. I was just looking for how much difference there was between the 3 different guns
