Others Need Scope Help Please

I am a seasoned open sight shooter. Open sights have always been my favorite (yes even at longer ranges). But I now have an air rifle without open sights (). I put on the cheap scope that came with the gun. I see the barrel (blurry) when looking through the scope. Is that normal? I took it off and put on a red dot and that seemed worse (saw more of the barrel, seemly touch the bottom of the red dot ). Since I haven’t shot much used scopes, I don’t know

You don't say what type of scope it is you are using. But - if it's a 4 x 32 types that's bundled with many air rifles - the optical quality is generally pretty appalling. Our advice is to replace it immediately with something better.

Bear in mind that the manufacturing cost of these 4 x 32 scopes charged by the factory would be well under $10.00. Maybe less than $5.00. That's about all they're worth...

Yes just a plain looks unbranded 4x32. It is ok accurate so for but not crazy about seeing the barrel and stuff. The red dot I tried is a Simmons

Well i would suggest medium to start but thats just a guess. Every one has their own personal preference on scope height. I would also suggest you measure what you have and try to decide if you are comfortable now or would higher or lower be better. You might even be able to use what you have if their the same size as the scope you get.
Im a big believer in comfort when shooting as if im not thinking of anything but shooting whatever im shooting at more than likely ill hit it!

Oh dont forget about the size of the bell of the scope if yours is 44mm and you get a 50 mm you need 4 mm minimum between your scope and barrel for your rings to work

Honestly Doc, even just a $40 "Winchester" 4x AO would be an upgrade from most package scopes. You can eliminate parallax at usual shooting ranges, even if the markings on the objective don't accurately correspond with actual distance.

When sizing scope rings, the height of the rings is dependent on the AO of the scope. The rule of thumb that I use for purchasing scopes is that one should approximate half the cost of rifle. Send us some pictures and let us help. Orv.

@Doc Holiday You’re not supposed to be able to see the barrel through your scope. Either something is going on with your rings or the scope is mounted way too low. At least these are the things that cross my mind, but you shouldn’t be able to see the barrel
