Pictured is my Beeman Pell Seat (along with Beeman pellet pouch) that I bought new in 1985.

One of the greatest things since sliced bread. The round end is for seating pellets, it will round out dented skirts and seats pellets to a consistent depth for maximum accuracy. It seats pellets in my springers with a satisfying click.

The pointed end is basically to seat felt cleaning pellets but can also be used for lead pellets and the like if you want to experiment with a diff seating depth.

It's a miracle I haven't lost it in 38 years.

Anyone else still have and use theirs?

I still have mine and the FWB124D that I use it on. I have one FWB124 that shoots better when I seat the pellets and I have another that shoots better when I do not seat the pellets. There seems to never be a definitive answer to anything in this sport!

Man that's strange

It sure is, but it is what it is. I had read that you should try just putting a pellet in, shoot 10 groups of 5 shots at 20y, then do the same for seated, then again with the pointy end all the way down. I did for both guns and one liked seating one didn't and neither liked in the bore. I did this a second time with a different ammo too, same result.

Tell you the truth ive never found a gun that liked the pellets seated deeper with the pointed end but hey, you never know

🤔wondering if how the pellet is propelled has anything to do with it..
Makes me think of how a.multipump works. When pumping, you want that head space to almost zero(the distance from the valve inlet of air to the pump cup that forces the air in.) You want that space almost zero.
So...on break barrels...having the projectile flush with the breech should yield the best results...😅
Then on a pcp or a bolt style breech, you want your projectile right at the rim of your transfer port in the barrel side, while having the main body of your bolt probe stopping at the opposite side of the transfer port.
...am I on the right track?😅

In a springer the piston moving forward at great and sudden speed compresses air almost instantly behind the pellet seated in the breech.

Ideally this expands the pellet skirt to seal the bore and the pellet is accelerated forward out of the barrel.

Obviously, deformed and out-of-round pellet skirts can impede this process. Also, your finger tip inserting the pellet into the breech isn't precisely consistent.

The Pell seat rounds out every skirt, and gives it a head start by seating the skirt into the rifle bore, and seats to a very consistent depth, actually just inside the breech. This should help consistency and therefore accuracy.

Obviously, not in every case.

I use a pellet pen sometimes. It acts like a "seater" of sorts...
Depending on projectile.
Are there any out now like yours?🤔
Or could a guy whittle one up out of a dowel rod?🤓
I love making stuff to use vs buying it if at all possible😶‍🌫️

I'd guess it would be very difficult to find one for sale but you could check online for a used one. Certainly I'm not interested in selling mine.

These are aluminum, not sure how well wood would work.

Thinking it over what MIGHT work is a roll pin punch of a certain size. The center of the end of the punch is rounded to keep the punch centered on the pin

I have made a few for people using a 3" long 1/4" cartridge bolt. Put the bolt in a drill and spin the head on a soft sanding block or sand paper on a soft surface and mirror it. Take a loop of Paracord big enough to fit around your neck and hang down to your belt, or pocket if you don't want it dangling. Put a piece of shrink tubing over the end of the bolt and stick the two ends of the cord in the shrink tube all the way through on either side of the bolt. Heat the shrink tube and then burn the ends of the Paracord to form a bulged end so the cord won't slip through. This is a safe way to do it, because it will break before you can hang yourself if it gets caught on anything.
