Break Barrel My HW30s arrived today

I ran some through the HW30S, and determined that it's not picky. I do like how round the group was for the JSB exact 8.44 is though. 5 shot groups.

Now try 20 shot groups with the best 3 premium pellets and the 2 best cheapie pellets. Adjust your sights so you don't shoot out your aiming point. Then compare. 20 shot groups give you way more predictability than 5, and will include the "flier" that are not really fliers.

That's interesting. I never considered buying cheap pellets.

You never know what an airgun will like. I put 20 different pellets to a test once in an entry-level break-barrel (I think it was an Umarex Embark). Best pellet was JSB SCHaK. 2nd best? H&N Econ II. In another case, I had a Crosman Mark II pistol that loved H&N Plinking pellets above any others. Seriously. I always test cheap pellets first in a new gun, because ya never know. Ya know?

I never considered shooting wad cutters at 30 yards. Which is another reason I haven't looked at them much. They worked for cutting a can the other day though.

I actually did 25. That's how came up with the .257 average. What's that tells me is that I'm an old retired guy, with an eye injury on his dominant side, but you do you.
Please don't take offense. That's a great result! Many shooters will take a 5 shot group and exclude "flyers," then wonder why they miss head shots on squirrels or birds at range. I have found many times a tiny group with a few "flyers" actually grows into a round, ragged hole after 20 shots, revealing the true, predictable group size.

Correct. I shoot a single shot when I want to know something. I shoot a three shot group to learn something else, and a five shot tells me yet something different. I've shot 10, 15, 20, and even 100 shot groups depending on what I want to know. While not offended, because I am not easily so, I am aware that unsolicited advice is criticism. It's a tough lesson to learn, especially when one only wants to help, but you have to be prepared to accept the consequences.

"unsolicited advice is criticism" Thanks for that advice. I will remember that. Shutting up now.

Zeroed the HW30S with the 7.87 JSB. I played with the turrets until I was happy, and verified with the three shot group bottom of the 6 ring. I called the flyer at nine o'clock even though I was unable to see the hits from 25 yards away. Scope was Hawke 2-7 Air Max.
