250Z Message from Barra Airguns on Accuracy

I just recieved the 6th .22 barrel I've laid hands on.

Not nearly as awful as the first 5. But it still has rub marks and smeared lands on the muzzle and breach ends. Crown and leade are still as rough as ever.

Half a year of knowing what the problem is, and still no corrective actions.

If they are inserting a spinning tool into either end of the barrel, it needs to have an appropriately sized roller bearing on it.

Better yet. Use the appropriate tooling for cutting the lead and crowning the muzzle!

Whatever they are using now ain't it. It shouldn't have ANYTHING inserted deeper than the portion that needs machining.

Was this one of the new ones that supposedly has been checked and meets specs?

Reading post like this is why I can't (yet) bring myself to purchasing a 250Z. I was hoping these Gen2 models would have the barrel issues corrected. Perhaps not???

Had to look with a magnifying glass to read the S/N on the new barrel. Checked the original bad barrel, and couldn't find one on it. Didn't know they had one. Only thing I was concerned about was the bore condition. Much improved compared to the original barrel. See how it shoots before I'm convinced it's actually better.

Bud, my. 25 just landed. Just slugged it, no polish, with a .251, smooth. Absolutely way better than the original I received. Im going to polish it up next Wednesday, test it out, find its perfect size slug, and as my buddy's get their pre order .25's, upgrade them for a fee with knowledge, and a nice polished barrel.

The ones I got also had the same serial number style, just higher numbers. Got to say, I'm not impressed in the slightest. From everything I've heard, these are not the same barrels as the ones that came in the originally released guns a little over a year ago.

I haven't ran a patch through either one but curiosity got the best of me and I pushed a slug through each of them. Pretty much the same as the original barrels, definitely choked. It was rough getting them past the the leade, then smooth all the way until the last 2 to 2.5" where it took considerably more force to get them out the muzzle end. Way more force than getting past the leade. The slugs are JSB KnockOut MKII and came out 0.253" afterwards.

I don't know what I'm going to do next. Is it even worth trying to clean them up, get the leade smoothed out and then polishing? If I knew I could work the choke out and recrown them without messing up I'd think about it but I'm not that skilled. Would you complain to Barra again and see if they'd do anything?

Do you have a bore scope? Or maybe you're feeling where the lands are smashed flat causing extra friction?

No, I don't have a scope. I had to use enough force to get the slugs past the last couple inches of both barrels that I was worried that I'd cut my hand on the breech end from pushing the dowel rod so hard.

*Edit* And I'm not worried about needing to clean up the leade. It's the choke that's upsetting.

Just got mine in as well, same crap as before the lead is horribly tight, 4 very tight spots throughout the barrel and the last 2.5 inches is aggressively chocked. There is no way in hell this barrel was inspected for anything other then being a barrel.

I'm pretty much done With barra their business practices leave a lot to be desired.

Luckily I managed to fix one of the barrels they sent by absolutely lapping the living hell out of it. The bore was super tight to began with so I had a lot of material to work with.

Is your rifle a .22 or .25?

My new 250Z .22 is due for delivery on Wednesday. Today's replies on this thread have me alarmed. :(

100% contact barra. Tell them they need to apply their stringent qc across all caliber of the 250z, and less than what is being advertised is 100% not acceptable.

Crowns are pretty easy to do as long as you have a drill, and a hardware store with brass hardware.

What is way more concerning to me is .253. Did you mean .2503? If you've got .2503, you can 100% open that up. But, that being said, absolutely F*** no. That's unacceptable.

My barrel after polish is .2505/2506. A little on the loose side, but i can live with that. In your shoes, id send it back, and request a inspected, tested, unchoked replacement for sure.

I have a bore scope so should have something to report by Thursday. Not feeling optimistic at the moment.
Scope it, and if youre choked, id contact barra and rts the whole thing. Let them know you are going to continue inspecting every rifle they send until they send out one that meets their advertised rifles specs of an unchoked rifle.
