Spring/Piston looking for long term premium Air Rifle

I’m sorry, I don’t have an answer for that. I never changed my springs. There are a lot of knowledgeable spring and piston shooters on here though that I would consider to be experts that might be able to answer that. In no particular order and sorry if I miss someone: @Scriv @Hoppalong Doc @Danman @jps2486 @Elexious Musick and several others
Thanks for sharing your experience — it’s interesting that you’ve never had to replace the spring in your rifle. My concern with spring‑piston systems has always been the risk of spring fatigue. I used to believe that after around a thousand shots, the spring would start losing tension and eventually need replacement, which could affect consistency and long‑term performance. That’s why I’ve leaned more toward gas‑ram designs, since they eliminate this issue and tend to hold their power more reliably over time.
 
If I had to replace the spring every 1000 shots, I'd be replacing the spring every couple of days at best LOL. But. Im not much of a springer now. Years ago I shot a Feinwerbau 300s. It was tack accurate the day I bought and when I sold it a few years later. I never changed the spring. If I was shooting my Diana 48 as much as I shoot the PCPs now, I'd probably have to change the spring at some point. Hopefully the more experienced guys will give you some advice.
 
I’ve recently taken some pictures of my Diana 350 Magnum with the NX200 Athena alongside it. The rifle came with an extra piston spring, and I’ve paired it with a Diana ZR mount to stabilize the scope. I’ve also ordered a Hawke 4.5–18×44 AOI scope, which should arrive by Wednesday.

On the ammunition side, I’ve added H&N Baracuda Hunter (0.177, 10.49gr, 400ct), JSB Hades (0.177, 10.34gr, 500ct), and JSB Diabolo Exact Express (0.177, 7.87gr, 500ct) to my collection. I already have Effebi Super Point pellets, but from what I’ve researched, the new selections are far better suited to the Diana 350 in terms of performance, accuracy, range, and destructive power. They should really bring out the rifle’s full potential.

I’d love to hear from fellow shooters — do you agree these pellets bring out the best in the 350 Magnum, or have you found other options that work even better?

Good pellet choices as far as the 10gr ammo,
we have had best accuracy with Jsb 10.03 pellets. You mention you are afraid of spring replacement after 1000 shots or so....i think you may be referring to 'spring set'? All springs do this and it is a normal phenomenon, it should live a long life as long as you don't shoot extremely light pellets all the time.
Overly light pellets are not great for a spring and overly heavy pellets will stress you seals more so.
Over time you will more than likely loose some fps yes, but that should increase your accuracy & make it easier to cock too.
It would be difficult to gauge how long a spring lasts, but with "normal" use (say a few tins/yr) it could well last 5+ years.
Brother had the first gen recoil mount from Diana and it was shifty....the new ones are supposed to be much better! 👍
 
Today I received my Hawke scope and managed to mount it on a Diana ZR one‑piece recoil‑reducing mount. It took me some time to understand the scope’s functionality and to get the mount properly seated on the rifle’s dovetail. Mounting the ZR was definitely more challenging than expected, and I know it will take me several days to fully zero the scope and get the most out of it.

One thing I’ve noticed: the lower carriage of the ZR mount is firmly clamped to the rail and doesn’t move at all. However, the upper carriage—the part that actually holds the scope—has a very slight side‑to‑side wobble (just a few millimeters) when I gently shake or move the rifle by hand. The scope itself is secure in the rings.

My question is: is this tiny amount of lateral movement normal for the ZR mount’s recoil‑isolation mechanism, or should the upper carriage be completely rigid?

That play is normal for those mounts, not really a defect... too tight and they may bind instead of allowing the recoil movement. I never loved the one we had either TBH. Down the road you can grab a set of solid mounts and re-mount the scope and see if the groups are tighter vs the ZR. I'd run it though as the 350 is a scope killer.

I’d honestly prefer solid mounts — the wobble in the ZR carriage really bothers me. My scope even came with its own stock mount, but I didn’t dare use it because of the Diana 350 Magnum’s notorious recoil. Unlike most rifles, the 350’s spring-piston action gives a sharp rearward jolt followed by a forward slam, and that double recoil cycle is brutal on optics. Since the scope is the most precious part of the setup, I felt I had no choice but to go with the ZR recoil‑reducing mount, even if it means tolerating that side‑to‑side play.

But the process revealed something I hadn’t anticipated: after more than a dozen cocking cycles, my right elbow began to ache badly. The strain was significant enough that I even found it difficult to lift the rifle with my right arm afterward.

This experience underscores one of the realities of the Diana 350 Magnum. Despite being such a powerful rifle, it’s priced more affordably than many other magnum‑class air rifles. I suspect the demanding cocking effort is a major reason. The rifle delivers impressive energy, but it does so through a long, heavy cocking stroke that places considerable stress on the shooter’s joints and muscles.

At 6'1" with a solid build, I assumed my strength would make the cocking effort manageable. Overconfidence proved wrong — even with muscular arms, the repetitive motion quickly becomes punishing. It’s a reminder that raw power in break‑barrel rifles often comes at the expense of user comfort. Rifles that achieve similar performance through gas ram or PCP systems avoid this level of strain, but they also come at a higher cost.

The Diana 350 remains a formidable rifle, but anyone considering it should weigh not just its ballistic performance, but also the physical demands of operating it over extended shooting sessions.

Could not agree more, now imagine being the poor scope on top of that beast. I like to shoot my 2 mid-power springers for an hour or two at a time, and when i had tennis elbow years back my TX200 was a handful, but I treated is as part of my physical recovery and took it slow.
The Diana 350 would have been completely unshootable at that time. It does get better as you break it in.💪
I remember when my dad first got his and on like the 10th shot I almost failed to cock it and had to get my leg/body involved.😂
 
Oh yes! Still, at 78 years of age, I 'm still cocking my 3 springers:: TX200, HW97K, and finally, my HW50s. I shot my HW97K for 2 hours this afternoon without throwing any joints out of place. Be patient, enjoy your shooting and the act of cocking a 9 pound spring-piston rifle will fall into place. Orv.
Gotcha beat. I'll be 86 next month. Went to the range last week with my R7, HW95 and HW97k and shot each one around 40 times to test accuracy. After I had finished, I had had enough. All my rifles are tuned to 12 fpe or less. Being just a paper puncher, I don't see the need or want a "magnum" springer. If I need to shoot something requiring that kind of power, out comes the PCP. Maybe some day, someone will build a super magnum with a spring from the front end of an F-150.

When they do make one of those "super magnum" springers with a Ford spring, I will finally give up on trying to cock one. I hope to be shooting right right along side 'ja on my 86th birthday. Orv.

Another concern I have is whether the zero on these scopes is affected by rifle movement and the recoil of the Diana 350 Magnum. I’m using Diana’s ZR Mount to protect the scope, but I’ve noticed a slight wobble in the mount. Could that small amount of play be enough to throw off the zero?

This combination of recoil, mount movement, and magnification adjustments is making it difficult to achieve consistency, and I’d appreciate insights from others who’ve faced similar challenges.

My suggestion to your predicament, is to swap the ZR mount and scope onto that other air rifle you showed in the picture earlier. You know what that rifle is capable of, so this would tell you if its the ZR mount/scope combo or your new 350 itself. Or shoot the 350 with its irons.
Also what ammo and at what distance are you testing it at? If you are using those light 7.87gr pellets at distance you can forget about accuracy I'd think....they would be going over 1050fps and wont be acurate. The ZR mount are unlikely to be as good (consistent) as solid mounts, but it should save your scope.
I would use an airmax scope and a one piece solid Dampa mount (made by Sportmatch in the UK) if I had to scope a 350 magnum.
