Iguana Solutions
HAM Competitor
The 3rd Annual Iguana Sniper Challenge in Hollywood, Florida is just around the corner. Are you registered?
This two day event, sponsored by Airguns of Arizona, DonnyFL, and Skout Airguns is hosted by me, Jessica, at Iguana Solutions. I am excited to share the joy of iguana hunting and airguns with new and seasoned shooters alike.
This year the Iguana Sniper Challenge has a side quest, where you can earn an iguana Challenge Coin, called the Iguana Opthalmological Society coin, by being in the top 33% of most eye shots during our iguana match. Spectators may also earn the coin by hitting an iguana target in the eye in 3 shots or less, positional shooting with a demo gun. (At lunch)
This event is intended to allow new shooters to enter the sport and compete in some less than serious events while we all have fun. At the 1.5hr lunch we will have multiple airguns and specific targets for the spctators to try to hit with demo guns. This is when spectators will have an opportunity to win out Iguana Opthalmologist Coin as well, with a demonstration gun.
The Iguana Sniper Challenge is excited to offer a $500 first prize, $300 second prize, and $200 third prize, cash, for each of the 3 events. In addition Orion the Iguana Hunter generously donated magazine gift cards for our first place winners. Orion is well known for making reliable equipment.
I am super excited to announce that our raffle will include a .22 caliber semi-automatic Skout Airgun, perfect for iguana hunting or speed competitions!
Vector optics has donated a compact 2-10×32 FFP Veyron scope for the raffle, light weight and great for hunting iguanas. A steel target by Monster Airguns will help any shooter sight in. Also thank you to Twisted Groove Gunsmithing for their support in the shoot.
DonnyFL will be providing the air for the event, which is extremely important, so special thanks to Donny for his generosity in providing quality suppressors for our raffle and the air required for our event.
The two day competition features 3 events:
Extreme Field Target (Grand Prix)
Traditional Iguana Sniper Challenge
Iguana Speed Challenge
The aspect that makes the Iguana Challenge so different from other competitions is that no benches are used. All 3 events require supported shooting or offhand. This can include bipods with a seat, kneeling, standing while leaning on a pole, and so on depending on which of our 3 events that you shoot.
The Extreme Field Target event is the traditional event where shooters try to hit a small killzone on a metal target somehwere between 15 and 115 yards. If the shooter is successful, a paddle in the killzone will allow the entire reactive target to fall, earning a point. This event is featured at the annual Extreme Benchrest competition held annually in Arizona and winners of this EFT will earn points towards their annual EFT title in 2027. The traditional Iguana Sniper Challenge will feature fun, somewhat realistic iguana scenarios such as iguanas behind a chainlink fence. Shooters are given a shot count of 2 per lizard and approximately 5 seconds per shot. Targets are oriented perpendicular to the shooter and only turn upon the call to fire, also turning when time is up, as if they ran away. Targets are oriented over the eye of each lizard. Scores are based on distance from the eye, on the target. If you hit the target but not the iguana, your score is 0- see image. If you hit a fence, you missed, it riccocheted. If you hit something you could break like a boat, you lose 5 pts. 100% positional shooting or from sticks and a seat, setup after call to fire.
Event 3
Iguana Speed Challenge will be a new addition this year. Shooters will do a quick qualifier and then the top 16 will shoot head to head in a bracket style competition. Targets will be 2" iguana head gongs betweeen 15 and 50 yds, to be shot from positions or shooting sticks, NO BENCH!
Hopefully a few attendies leave with etched trophies and cash in their wallets, others with a new Iguana Coin in their pockets, some add a new gun or scope to their asenal from the raffle, new shooters leave with iguana targets in hand inspired to practice harder, but all depart with fun memories of shooting with friends.
