Good morning guys, I am working my way into FT , having really enjoyed the Athlon Helos 2-12 BTR on 3 of my rifles currently I was looking at this scope as an option of course in SFP option as it has a reticle I like , I like MIL and I like a christmas tree reticle. Big fan of familiarity so trying to keep reticles similar to these three Athlons and my Valdada I run.

Can anyone recommend this scope as a good option for a beginner FT setup?

Absolutely. Mine ranges very well.

Food for thought- you might consider the FFP version, as it's the only version for which the entire reticle can be illuminated. Only a 2 Mil section is illuminated in the SFP version, which I have. This won't cover the holdover you'll need for longer shots, assuming a zero at apogee (typically 28-30ish yards). Used to scoff at illuminated reticles, but the older I get the more I value them! You're eyes may not need it as much as mine do.

This is assuming you're going to shoot Hunter class & always keep it on 16x. Athlon uses pretty thin reticles, so (again, to my eyes) in FFP they get too thin to be useful under about 10-12x.

I don't find myself using the IR often but when I do I really enjoy it. At 16 power in the FFP version I am sure the entire reticle would still be visible too being that max mag is 24.

i am over Hawke scopes
for me i want the i have gone and i want it replaced with another Athlon. first chance i get thats what will happen.

Have a helos 6-24 x56 on my 👻ft rig and its nicely bright and clear better than my argos gen 2 6-24x50. Im a fan of ffp for ft and the aplr2 reticle in moa as it gives me finer aim points

I ordered the Heras 6-24x56 today in SFP per recommendations from a few others, hoping I like it. I like the way the reticle looks, however this would be the only SFP reticle in my stable. Not a big deal as it stays on 16 power anyways.

what is the resaoning to go with the SFP over the FFP?

I'd say simpler, aka cheaper to make, reticle never changes size as you adjust mag/parallax. Good for bench or close/med range hunting. Not so good for longer ranges or HFT where your targets are at different ranges mostly. If dialing is your thing I'd imagine FFP is a no Brainer? I only own SFP but I also don't shoot past 75 yards (yet)😏

For me i shoot HFT at 16x so I can’t dial. The SFP Hawke I use provides a good reticle width vs a super thin FFP reticle unless zoomed all the way to max. I suppose a 16x max mag FFP would work. FFP has never been useful for me.
