I recommend capping off the thermal during the day, accidentally getting sunlight into the sensor will destroy it.

First, I really enjoy watching your videos. What were your symptoms of damaging the thermal sensor? Was it completely dead or working but degraded? I’m just curious what people should watch for?

I learned last night that not all glowing eyes are rodents lol. I saw a lot of eyes last night, but no heat signatures. I could see the body of this one and decided to take a shot. I ranged it using the built-in range finder at 57yds. I hit the RF button one more time and got an instant holdover. There wasn’t really any holdover because I sighted in the Ghost .25 yesterday at 50yds with AEA 33.9gr pellets. I took a shot and it hit an inch or two to the left. The eyes popped back up and I held to the right and surprisingly heard a THWACK. The night vision and IR illuminator makes it easy to see the flight of the pellets and their impact in dirt. Turned out to be a 1.25” cricket frog.

@Billm I had a feeling that it was a frog before I finished reading your post. Dew drops can fool you too as far as looking like eye using NV and IR. It’s good to have the thermal option on a multi spectral unit. How do frogs’ images show up in your thermal optic?

They don’t show up at all using thermal. I guess it makes sense as they’re cold blooded.

A note on using it with the Ghost and Sonoran. I had no issues mounting it to the Ghost. It comes with a 0 MOA MOUNT. It did not have enough elevation on the Sonoran and I was not willing to buy another mount and so I shimmed it. It was difficult to mount on the Sonoran without accessories. It interferes with the magazine and it’s a single mount.

Regarding the remark of the OP about the Laser rangefinder not being accurate: I sometimes notice that the opened lenscap is (partly) in the way of the LRF.
So be sure to check that it is not obstructing the LRF.

I didn’t have the cap on at the time. I take the cap off at night most times, because like you pointed out, it sometimes blocks the other optics. I was comparing it to my Leopold laser rangefinder. I’ll have to measure it with a wheel and see which one is correct. Even so it’s not major. Still a very nice optic.
