Coyote hunting with Mora

Visited a large ranch for five days to help eradicate the abundance of problem Coyotes. I used the RTI Mora in 9mm that I have configured for 230fpe using 100gr zan slugs. This is a serious kit that I have topped with a high end Guide thermal and is effective out to 200+ yards. I missed a few that night but managed to connect with two between the ranges of 75 and 100 yards. Enjoy

No coyotes , but I took my 70 G-hog this morning with my .25 AirMaks Katran HP. I nailed it at 40 yards w/ a 35 gr Eun Jin pellet as it stood facing me. A high, between the shoulders shot anchored it. There are coyotes around on this farm, but deer & woodchucks are the biggest crop problems.

Another great video, with excellent production values. I liked how the beginning, before you speak, looks like an old horror movie, and the sounds and music in some parts plays up the ambiance. You have it down really well at this point. Good job on the dogs too!

@TerryE1 know what you know do you think the night scopes like the DNT are a good scope if your hunting at night or just go to a thermal?

I have the Zulus. It's ok for the price range. If you're hunting small game at short range, you'll be happy with one. If you're looking at thermal, avoid the low budget stuff. The image quality is pretty lame. I've tried the one that Dana uses, and as you can see in his video its worth the high coin.

yea I was look at the Zulus but I am not sure its going to cut it on a total dark night at a 100 yards for medium game?
but I am not ruling it out.
I really dont want to spend a lot as I dont do a lot at night but I also hate buying something and feeling like I wasted my money, I would rather get something better.
I have been putting off getting something for night do to learning curve the unknown and the cost LOL

At 100 yards, I'm OK with the Zulus if I adjust the IR beam. When you adjust your focus with the lens, you want to check the throw of the beam as well.

You may want to consider the 3 X 12 model. I bought my 5 X 20 before they came out. There's plenty of times where I'd like a wider filed of view for hunting, and 20X is way too much for me to spot prey. I hunt rats inside of a barn, and 3X would be ideal.

If you do go with a DNT, check the FAQ page on their website. I didn't know this, but the IR times out after 20 minutes so it doesn't overheat, and you can read about it there.

When looking for night optics you may consider a few things. What will you be doing with it and at what ranges? A night optics without a rangefinder is essentially useless unless you are shooting at known ranges. Low magnification is my preference as you will have a much wider field of view, spotting is easier and the picture quality will be better. Anything over 3x in my opinion is terrible, especially for ratting. If you plan to use the unit during the day I would stay away from thermals, they don't work well and the sensor can become damaged...stick with an IR unit or go with something like the higher end ThermNight that's a multi-spectrum. If you decide to go with a thermal, higher the sensor is usually higher quality and sharper image at further ranges. Lower sensor quality will make images look like blobs, is that a deer, horse, rabbit? Difficult to tell at further ranges. Those who have no experience looking through high end thermals might be impressed with even the low quality versions... I've yet to see anything better than the Guide Tu651, everything else looks sub-par next to it. Bottom line, if you want to go thermal, I see no real affordable options that provide real usable options at long range. Another thing to consider is how user friendly will the unit be? My experience is PARDs are some of the most user friendly, DNT imo not so much... sometimes more features can ruin the experience especially when you need to connect to an app to perform certain functions.

Phone apps. Yes, that's another thing to consider. Companies like to put in a "one shot zero" feature. It's worthless without a Wi-Fi signal.

yea for what I am want it would be day and night I am thinking about putting it on my EVOL .30 mostly thinking about cyotes at night where theres no light source other then the stars and although I am thinking 100 yards truth is it could be more.
those things hit a mellon patch and they do some wicked damage and fast. its a ongoing issue.
I am thinking 100 yards because I have a good place to sit up and thats about the range to the middle of the patch
unless I help my buddy Mr. Mark then we would be out 150 ish

FWIW, the daytime feature on the Zulus is pretty good, and battery life is ok without the IR switched on.
