Well sitting here getting some slugs ready to test through my rifles, and I figured I would take some pictures for you guys to see what happens.

First I will say is that these dies and press from Corbin are TOP NOTCH! I really like fine machining and these are great to look at. The one thing I need to ask.......is to please ignore the mess of the work bench. I have some fishing lures in the back ground, as well as my powder loading things as well. One bench to work on everything. So sorry about that.

I have the pictures on my phone and will upload here in a minute. But we see the 10lb coil of lead, now this is the old way of doing it as Corbin has moved to sticks of lead. I have about 80lbs of lead sitting in the shop at this point. Then you have a picture of the lead cutter. Really basic and really easy to adjust for different weight cores for your different weight slugs. There is the press that is currently holding the new ACE slug die with a standard boat tail base, I also have the correct ACE slug tail to try as well. Want to test if there is a difference between the two options. I also have the Corbin X-Punch to turn the ACE slugs into some NASTY hunting rounds! And yes I will test these out as well. There is a picture of the cores in the dish I use to catch from the cutter. Apply a little lubricant and spread around. Then into the press to make a finished slug.

I will take more detailed pictures if people are interested, or if you want to see anything specific... just ask!

The Corbin Cutter. There are different inserts you can use for different calibers. Then adjust the set screw and tighten the nut to set the length of the core.

Lead wire on the old style spool, hanging out with one of the wings. 10lb of lead wire that measures .210 diameter

The S-Press itself. Dies and pins are quite easy to adjust for weight. With the press you are able to get about 0 deviation from slugs to slug. At a MAX you are around 1 grain total. A good beam scale is about a requirement for the accuracy we are looking for. I am using an RCBS 304 though I have cross checked on my new digital scale as well. And even with the old style scale I find it much quicker and easier than the digital scale.

Here is the old bowl getting filled with the cores from the cutter. These are typically cut around 1.5 grains heavier than I am aiming for. So for these I am looking at 40 grains for the HM1000x, so these cores are sitting at 41.5-41.7 grains. The cutter isn't nearly as accurate as the press. It doesn't need to be because you want a little extra to make sure all of the lead is squished into the die.

Here is the finished product! These were the first two rounds made to adjust the ram on the press. The first one is 40.8 grains and the other is 39.89 grains. Some final adjustments and we are sitting at 40 grains for the rest..... that is sitting in the Hm1000x magazine to make sure they fit as well as the magazine will function.

You got it.

The ACE slug base has a shallower jump from the body to the boat tail. Not sure how much this is actually going to change anything when shooting, but we will see. Like I said both are the same weight as well, so I should get a darn good test.

Heck I do have a dish base as well..... so could see what the slugs do with a dish base. Would look like a rounded nose core and nothing much. Wonder if they would shoot at well or just shotgun

Id try everything you can including varying weight i shot the lighter airmarksman 33gr and they weren’t bad either they were 217 i think and i thought 217 might be better than 2175. But i really didn’t have time to test enough

I have the 40 grains already made, but I am planning on making some from around 34-40 grains to see what happens. I know the lowest I can make with the ACE setup is around the 35.5 grains. Any lower and you risk damaging the pins. But I can use the standard dish base to make lighter weight slugs as well.

I am planning on seeing what the slugs look like with the ACE slug body and nose pin, with a dish base. Wondering if the bearing surface will act any different in the barrel. And if these ones work, that will be a slug that NOBODY is making. So would be a fun thing to know :D

How long did you have to wait to get your dies after ordering . Just curious I placed an order in early December was told by the end of the year, next told by the end of January and now about half of February gone and no dies.

I hope you get them soon and welcome to the forum man!
