BCSA (Binghamton, NY) – September 26th, 2026 Match Report
Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report
Well, another season at BCSA is in the books! The weather for the day ranged from mostly cloudy to fully overcast with winds ranging in the upper single digits to gusts in the mid 20mph range. We stayed dry for the 60 shot rifle portion but had some light rain and sprinkles arrive during the high power match. Definitely a gloomy fall like day.
We had 13 people on hand for this match. This included Leo Gonzales, who made a returning trip to our club, and the Jimenez family! Luis made the trip to our match for the first time and convinced his wife Jo and daughter Sophia to join in the fun! Welcome all!
Sight-in:
The course of fire for the rifle match was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane, 2 shots per target, with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. With the Nationals coming up in about a month, the course was set a little different so those attending wouldn’t be surprised by what they might see there. The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:
The breakdown for the percentage of targets based on difficulty was:
As usual, there were targets in light unprotected areas and targets in dark protected areas along with everything in between! Some targets were unseen by the naked eye as to what they were (IE the little bird target that will be a regular addition to the match rotation)…but were clearly visible through the scope. The Paul Porch Egret target was out on the course as usual and definitely didn’t disappoint! It takes a bit of finesse to set the blocks so that when the target falls, it falls slowly. It gives you a moment of panic when you start saying to yourself “I know I hit that!?!” then it slowly falls backwards. Always a head scratcher that puts a smile on your face! There were no cold lines called… but there was a target that the string hung up on a few times. A little side arm snoopy pole cast and the string was free!
This was Sophia’s first match so mom and dad helped her out along the way. Scoring for her was 2-1-0. 2 for a knockdown, 1 for a faceplate and 0 for missing the target completely. She made it through 6 lanes before exhaustion reared it’s ugly head. This netted her a final score of 48! Sophia had 14 knockdowns which included 2 knockdowns on the elevated target (¾ at 13 yards) and 1 on a long tardet (1.5 at 54 yards). Way to go! Brian Van Liew (Open PCP) took top honors of the day with a 56. Following Brian, was Leo Gonzales (WFTF Piston) with a 51, Paul Manktelow (Hunter PCP) with a 48 and then Doug Rogers (Hunter PCP) with a 47.The rest of us fell in line behind the leaders and our scores can be seen below.
After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the High Power match. As always, Thank You All, the help is greatly appreciated!
This time around we had 4.5 competitors for the High Power match. This included first time HP shooters Leo, Pete and Luis. Luis only shot 1 of the longest lanes with 4 targets but will definitely be back with everything dialed in after knocking down the 100 yard target! That definitely put a smile on his face! Pete and Leo were sharing Pete’s Daystate and had a blast shooting their fist HP match. Their dope wasn’t 100 percent, but they were knocking down plenty of targets and smiling throughout the entire match! Brian was using his 0.30 Impact and I was using my newly acquired Gen 3 Marauder. None of us were really fully setup. But we had fun! We did have rain arrive during the match but it was light and didn’t get us too wet. There were 2 cold lines called for the same target. The pellet splatter locked up the linkage and the target needed a little assistance to reset. There were 6 lanes, 5 of which had 4 targets and were shot from the seated position and 1 standing lane that had 2 targets which were shot off shooting sticks.
When the dust settled, Brian ended up with the win with a score of 30. Leo was second with a 29. Pete and I fell inline behind the leaders with a 27 and 24 respectively.
After the match we picked up the targets, moved the blocks and wound the strings! The canopies were left up due to the dampness that the rain provided. After that….the day was a wrap!
