Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report

Our first match of 2026 is on the books! Our May match was canceled due to an all day steady heavy rain. This time around, the forecast called for afternoon thunderstorms so the decision was made to just hold the 60 shot rifle match. We did have three 5 to 10 minute showers come through…but the match went on!

Due to prior commitments and weather, we ended with 13 people on hand for this match.

The course of fire for the rifle match was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane, 2 shots per target, with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:

The breakdown for the percentage of targets based on difficulty was:

The wind was pretty light and the skies were dark to bright for the match. Add in the 3 passing showers and all bases were covered. Well…except for the higher wind gusts which did appear after the match was finished. As usual, there were targets in light unprotected areas and targets in dark protected areas along with everything in between! Rick Vaeth (Open PCP) and Doug Rogers (Hunter PCP) shared the top score honors with 45s. Karen Reis (WFTF PCP) was next up with a 43 then Nathan Thomas (WFTF Piston) with a 42, The rest of us fell in line behind the leaders and our scores can be seen below.

One quick cold line was called due to a key ring on the target reset bolt being shot off. A quick trip out for a reclip and all was well so the match continued on.
After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and teardown the canopies. As always, Thank You All, the help is greatly appreciated!
