BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - July 12th, 2025 Match Report
Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report
Our 2025 season keeps rollin on at BCSA! The long range forecast for match day was showing dry but hot and humid weather. The day before the match the National Weather Service issued a heat warning with real feel temperatures to be between 96° - 105°. The canopies were set up in order to provide some shade and relief from the sun.
We had 16 people on hand for this match which was a 60 shot rifle match followed by a 40 shot pistol/10m/rifle practice match. Paul Varney and Eric Brewer made their first trips of 2025 to the range to spend the hot summer day with us. We had water and lemonade on hand to help people stay hydrated and Karen brought along brownies and muffins for breakfast/snack! Thanks Karen…as always, they were excellent!
The course of fire for the rifle match was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. A previous layout was used but with many target placement changes. The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:
The breakdown for the percentage of targets based on difficulty was:
The wind was pretty much non-existent but there were a few times where we had little gusts come through at the most inopportune time. There were targets in light unprotected areas and targets in dark protected areas along with everything in between! Rick Vaeth was able to lock in high score for the day with a 49 out of 60 in Open PCP . The second highest score for the day was a 46 out of 60 from Karen Reis in Hunter PCP then Rich Sarama in Hunter PCP right behind with a 45 out of 60 . The rest of us followed behind and all the scores can be seen below.
After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the pistol targets. As always, Thank You All, all the help is greatly appreciated!
Pistol/etc. Field Target Time!
The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane. The course stats were as follows whether shooting the course pistol, rifle-kneeling or rifle-standing.
8 people participated this time around. There was 5 Hunter Pistol shooters and 3 rifle shooters. Doug Rogers shot his FT rifle for a 40 shot kneeling practice session while Rich Sarama and myself only made it through a few lanes till we threw in the towel!
Unfortunately there was two quick cold lines. As couple of string catches and a push down of the holding pins.
A couple of rain showers came through during the pistol match and gave everything a quick soaking. It relieved the heat only briefly. When the sun came back out…..everything was steamy!
After the match was completed, everyone jumped in and we made quick work of packing away all the targets! As always, all the help is GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!
